Commercial Description:
Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor, which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling.

Bottled. Dark reddish brown coloured. Light brown head. Caramel, light espresso, chocolate, light grass and herbs in the aroma. Flavour of sterin, chocolate, light liqourice, light roast. Medium bodied. Quite dry. Light bitter end with a roasty touch.

Bottled. Rubyish amber colour, huge brown head. Aroma is nuts, roasted malts, coffee and some slight notes of chocolate. Flavour is roasted malts, nuts as well as quite big on the ashy notes. Also some caramel malts as well as mild notes of liquorice.

12oz. bottle. Slight aroma of darkly roasted malts, ash, must, cocoa and some faint raisin. Dark brown-black color with a very fine, off-white head. Flavor is roasty, sweet and mildly bitter, with plenty of dark chocolate throughout, along with touches of toffee, smoke, licorice and earthy, grassy hop. Lingering, drying, grainy bitterness late. Low in effervescence and a bit thin on the palate, body is medium. Decent Porter, perhaps not overly impressive, but passable.

from crackedkettle.com - dark brown colour with a rubish hue; little beige foam left; deep aroma of pralines, cold ashes and vanilla; medium to full malt body, a fair sweetness and carbonation; a moderate late bitterness; long chocolatey finish

Bottle. It’s a dark, dark, reddish brown beer with a minimal beige head. The aroma is big but not intense, with charcoal, dark coffee, cocoa and a faint chalky, milky touch in the background. Wonder if an infection is going on, even though the pour didn’t give that impression. The flavor suggests the same, still it’s pretty damn good, with lots of coffee, chocolate, heavily roasted malts and some hoppy and roasted bitterness. Full-bodied, quite smooth and pleasantly carbonated. The finish is lasting, with the hoppy bitterness lasting for the longest time, and there’s also lots of dry, dark coffee and some sweeter chocolate. Even though there’s some disturbing aromas and flavors, it’s a quite lovely beer. Would certainly like more of this one. 090825

Bottle. Pours very dark, nearly black, with a thin tan head. Aroma of rich cocoa, caramel, coffee, and roasted malts. Very inviting. Flavor is sweet, roasted malts are present, with espresso notes. Finish is not overly bitter, but well-balanced. I was pretty impressed, I thought it was good.

Bottled 355ml. Comparing with Left Hand Black Jack Porter. Appearance: It pours a slightly hazy, dark ruby beer with a beautiful creamy lacing light beige head. Darker with a taller head. Much better retention too. Aroma: Extremely nice, wonderful, deeply pleasant, inviting and amazing. A lot of raspberry, vanilla, sorbet, wild strawberries, coffee beans, pistachio, chocolate truffes, Christmas cake, coconut and smoke. Absolutely mindblowingly fantastic. Flavor and palate: Subtle carbonation. Medium bodied. Low bitterness. A lot of raspberries showing up again. Surprisingly acidic. Complex. Faintly smoky. Great malt and hop profile. Wonderful long dry finish which is reminiscent of raspberry and smoke. Overall impression: I reveled in every sip. I can’t imagine a better Porter. The aroma is out of this world! Strongly underrated in my opinion.
