| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 3, 2009 I have come to the end of the trip that is the Southern Tier 12 oz bottle line.. a mediocre trip it has been, hopefully we can end it on a better note. 12 oz bottle likely from the Binnys Singles Rack (Orland Park, IL). Pours a dark brown with reddish notes around the edges, a translucent body bordering on transparent just dark in some parts. Head is big and light brown, carbonation bubbly that starts to die and eventually settles at a small layer, laces some. Aromas are very light melding some roasty malts and a touch of creamy chocolatey sweetness. A little vague. Initial is thinner bodied than expected, sweeter chocolate and tamer roasted malts make up the initial, a smooth beer with lighter flavors, bit of bitterness and roast come in further into the body, lighter and more sessionable. The body is fairly light overall, finish is mellow sweetness and roast, mixed well, but a bit too watery. Bitterness comes in a bit fuller further in, balances better.. still watery though. This is an ok Porter, I guess. Tastes a little like artificial sweetener in the finish.. still, this base is much better than the raspberry version. jesperhammer (290), Copenhagen, Denmark
