Commercial Description:
Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor, which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling.

Brewtopia’04. Dark brown, appropriately clear, light tan head. Smells sweet and roasted dark white toast. Some coffee on nose carries into flavor but hops really are the showcase of this porter, to me. Unfortunately, I don’t care for a ton of piney, grapefruity hops in a porter as it seems to take away from the subtlties of prune, raisin, fig, etc that I savor in the style. I sure this one really appeals to some, but not me. The bodywas fairly thin compared to the robust flavors.

Re-Rate Brewtopia ’05I’m really digging the big hop profile on this one, burnt toast with orange marmalade. Hops all over the flavor but with a strong enough backbone to hold it up. Roasty, more hops. Very dry to finish but lingering malt grease. Either my tastes have changed or this beer has gotten better or both. bump it to 4.0.

Bottle. Sweet roasted malt aroma with grapefruity hops raised up to balance. Pitch pour with a tanned, lacing bubbly head. Nice, strong roast overtones in the taste. Nutty with mild berryish fruit. Grapefruit and coffee. Lightish-medium body, creamy smooth dryish finish. Not the best porter to style, and not the best porter, but still, there’s something really nice here.

Pours deep red-brown, with a medium light tan head which quickly dissipates. Slight roast and milk chocolate in the nose give way to a nice creamy body of milk chocolate, toast, and a licorice touch, finishing somewhat chalky. On the creamy side for porters and this is welcomed. Thanks Dan (jah noth)!

Courtesy of Shadey <P> Aroma is full of chocolate malt, cream and miniscule hints of vanilla. Deep black with a thumb thick tan head. Fore is roasty chocolate malts, cocoa, sweet cream, light coffee notes and a hint of nougat. Very nice mouthfeel that is perfectly to syle. A well done porter.

[12 oz. bottle] Dark brown color with a reddish tint and a fluffy tan head. Roasted malts and coffee in the aroma with a slight hint of chocolate and brown sugar. Very rich and full roasted coffee flavor with a slight twinge of hops in the finish and a bitter coffee aftertaste that stays in your mouth for a while. A fine porter.

Dark beer with mahogany hues when held up to the light and an attractive frothy beige head. Sweet raw grain nose with hints of chocolate. Nice porter with well balanced chocolate sweetness and coffee bitterness, with notes of chalk, wood and some white sugar. Enjoyable brew for after work.
