Commercial Description:
Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor, which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling.

Sitting down to watch MNF, Ravens v Bengals. Popped this open and not sure what to expect, since I don’t get beers from Southern Tier in my neck of the woods. Poured the beer out into my Maudite glass and after emptying the bottle, the beer formed a nice one-finger thick tan head. The body of the beer was medium black in color, dark brown highlights on the edges. The aroma was nicely roasted coffee beans, subtle dark chocolate hints...toffee as well. Nothing extravagant, but solid. Flavor is full flavored with coffee, charred bread, powdered chocolate, with a subtle punch of hops. Mouthfeel was a bit thin, too carbonated for my liking to receive a higher mark but still entirely drinkable. A nice beer. Recommended.

Bottle- Coca-cola pour with a fluffy mocha froth.Aroma is roasty, coffee bean , some dark chocolate and dark malts, a touch of vanilla. Bitter, roasted coffee bean flavour, dark chocolate, with some yeast and a solid bitter coffee finish. Dry and pleasing. Good.

bottle. This is indeed a pretty dark beer, it’s virtually black. What is more noteable is the gigantic, explosive tan head. I am afraid of infection after such an eruption so I cautiously smell the bottle and the gigantic mound of foam in my snifter. It doesn’t smell sour. I double check for some kind of date stamp on the bottle. None. So, here we go. The aroma is sharp and roasty with considerable nutty quality and hints of chocolate and butermilk. The palate is just medium. The flavor is very piercing, boderline metallic with more dark chocolate and coffee hints. I’m not sure what I think about this. It is much more acidic than I’d like a porter to be.

Dark brown, no head. Sweet chocolate aroma, light coffee background. Flavor exactly on par with the aroma, tapers off in the finish to almost nothing. Body/mouthfeel rather thin and watary. Just average, rather bland porter.

12oz bottle. Pours deep brown/near black with a half finger tan head. The nose is ashy malt and dark chocolate. The taste is chocolate, roasted malt, ashy cocoa and coffee. Medium, semi-creamy mouthfeel. Good Porter.

Bottle from trade with Ty5592. Dark brown, but not opaque, with a little tan head. Blah blah blah, we are a craft brewer and we make a porter, its really boring. Roasted malt, a little coffee, minor cocoa , and plenty of blah. No offense souther tier, but this beer is weak. easy drinking though. moving on...

Mostly black in color with a slight purplish tint, small head with a little lacing, roasted & toasted nose with a touch of coffee & chocolate, medium in body, nice hop character to balanced it all out, slightly sweet flavors with a nice touch of coffee & espresso, deep roasted finish & aftertaste, also a slightly dry finish as well

Bottle. Body is a very dark brown and sits beneath a large tan head that laces a bit as it recedes. Aromas are mostly chocolatey with a touch of peat and chalk. Chocolate the dominant flavor, but the peat is there and there is a nice charcoal aftertaste that sticks around a bit. Just a hint of piney hops lingers in the background. Nice, although not remarkable complex.
