Commercial Description:
Porter is our darkest beer, but not necessarily our strongest. It is widely held that the darker the beer the stronger the beer, but this is summarily false. The contribution of color comes directly from the color of malt that we use. Some malt is roasted to achieve dark color and coffee-like flavor, which in turn get transferred to the beer. Our Porter is richly complex with overtones of chocolate and espresso beans followed by a subtle flavor of hops. It’s a nourishing beer without being too sweet or filling.

Black brown pour with a small tope head. Nose: chocolate, coffee, roasted malt. Taste: mouthfeel is medium taste is chocolate and roasted malt with a bitter back end. Pretty standard, nothing exciting, and kind of weak. Additional notes of cocoa powder and burnt mini wheats. (nice call andrew)

Porter may be Southerntier’s darkest beer, but it also was the flattest beer I’ve poured in a while. Some swirling of the glass gave me a short lasting foam. Roasted chocolate malt flavor and fragrance. Overall this porter was fleeting, needs more definition.

Very dark pour, rich creamy tan head. Nose was roasted coffee. Wow, mouth feel was much fuller then I anticipated from the pour. Well balanced carbonation, hop and malt profile. This is a most excellent Porter, and much appreciated, Thanks shadey!

Appearance: Pitch black with a large off cream colour head. Aroma: Wonderfully creamy vanilla hop & peat. Flavour: Smoke, pear, toffee and a long vanilla finish. Lovely.

Very solid porter with nice body and that it held up to me drinking at a time when I probably shouldn’t have (after MANY other beers) it is all the more impressive. Thanks again to Shadey

Very, very dark brown body with a very white, stout-like head. A roasty, smokey highly lactose flavor. A pleasant, almost nutty finish. Generally, a little bland for my taste, but it's really not bad at all.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting at Dogbricks on 12/4/08. Pours dark brown with a big tan head. Aroma of blackberry, malt and some coffee. Flavor of steamed asparagus with a coffee finish. I hope this is a bad bottle and it doesnt always taste like this.
