| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 11, 2009 This pours a clear, golden, brown color, with mild ruby tinting. Almost two-fingers of tan colored foam make the head. Retention is very good and lacing is in sticky strands.
Wow. The raspberry profile dominates the nose, much more than I had expected. It is a very wonderful scent, both sweet and tart. I can get just the slightest hint of dark chocolates trying to break through, also.
You get the tanginess of the raspberries first. Then, the full flavor of the porter comes on. Roasted malt notes, light hints of coffee and a good level of dark and bittersweet chocolates. The chocolate notes combine with a good touch of raspberry sweetness, on the back end. These leaves the aftertaste filled with a presence of milk and dark chocolate covered raspberries, which is a nice, long finish.
This has a medium to almost full body on it. The medium level of carbonation is good for it’s style, keeping it lively and active. It is smooth, with a very light touch of creaminess.
This is a great sessionable brew. Relatively low abv content (4.80%), combined with a flavor that is way more than one-dimensional, make this one a keeper.
Southern Tier comes through for me, yet again.

Been missing out on this sucker for far too long! Rich chocolate and rich raspberry flavors.. Tastes like my morning coffee at cafe groppi. This might be the single most underated beer on this site. Aroma is extremely weak; smells vaguely like raspberries. Weak body with an average finish. williamherbert (466), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 2, 2009 The color is reddish brown. Fragile foamy head disappears fast. Looks watery, but also dark and substantial. Deep and rich, but not doesn’t look thick. Good lace.
Smells like a coffee with a hint of raspberry. Both scents go together nicely. The bitter coffee and berry smells are good together.
The berry is the dominant initial flavor; coffee comes after the swallow. A wheat flavor is present too -- somewhat. Not that complex, but nicely balanced. Like a black + red flavor.
It’s smooth, but with the slight thickness of a porter. Good smooth/rough contrast in the feel. It’s a good sweet/bitter beer with some depth in the contrasting flavors. Both bitter + sweet are strong. Boliv (191), New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 21, 2009 Bottle. I enjoyed this. Poured a murky brown with a reddish tinge, and a medium white head. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, raspberry, and caramel. Flavor is similar, fruity and malty and sweet, very smooth overall; a bit thin for a porter, however. I had this on a very hot summer night and it was still refreshing and welcome. I’d have it again.
