crazyvin (1246), New York, USA Sep 17, 2008 A big disappointment to me, considering how much i liked the porter. The initial thought that this was going to be as good. It poured a heavy looking black hue with an off-white to beige head with nice lacing. aroma had nice roasted cocoa notes and some fruit notes, neither of them really wowed me on the flavor. I found the roasted notes on the porter side a little light. I also could not get a really good feel of the raspberries. My first bottle was cold and the second warmed up a bit, so that probably affected the flavor. Beer still could have been more. PaulHegedus (459), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Sep 7, 2008 Bottle at Smokeless Joe, Toronto, July 2008. Poured dark brown with a relatively fragrant head: aromas of chocolate, raspberry. I could taste chocolate with a pleasant hint of raspberry, which compliments well, also a bit of nuttiness. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Aug 21, 2008 12 oz bottle-pours a dissipating to a ring tan head and light mahogany color. Aroma is raspberry syrup. Taste is raspberry, then medium/dark malt, some nutty/caramel, slight hops. Lighter than most porters, maybe a “summer porter”. Plenty of carbonation. (Rating #1884) NomDeBeer (399), Maryland, USA Aug 15, 2008 I really enjoyed this beer, but then I like anything with raspberries. Flavor: roasted malts, chocolate, and a touch of bitter ash that go nicely with tart raspberries. As others have pointed out, it does have a light body. And I agree with DrBayern that this is a dessert beer rather than an everyday sipper. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Aug 11, 2008 Date: 08/09/08, 12 oz. bottle
Aroma - Fruity, with the raspberry unmistakable. roasted malt and hints of chocolate lie underneath
Appearance - Clear mahogany, large, estremely durable light tan head, with a thin foamy layer still present after 10-15 minutes at the bottom of the glass. A sticky, thick lace adds to picture.
Flavor - Molasses, sweet cherry, and chocolate malt flavors up front, with a nice citrus rind bitterness that comes through at the finish, which develops a soft dryness.
Palate - Medium/full body and carbonaiton, smooth, and gently dry
Overall - I found this to be much better thatn the ratings would suggest. More of a dessert or after dinner beer. Not somethig I would want to drink often, but food in the right contest. jimhilt (1664), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Jul 26, 2008 Pours a five+ finger cream head that fades slowly, leaving a good lace. Deep mahogany color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. roasted coffee nose. Flavor is roasted coffee, with late hint of raspberry. $1.85 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.
Marsiblursi (1631), Göteborg, Sweden Jul 20, 2008 (Bottle) Pours dark brown with a red glow. Off-white head. The aroma is of fresh raspberries with only a whisper of roast, toast and caramel. The flavour is soda-like like with clear raspberry notes alongside tiny hints of malt way in the background. The mouthfeel is clean with a light crisp carbonation. Light to medium sweet and light bitter. Light bodied.
