THOUGHTS: I can’t see why this is called a porter at all. It’s not. As it warms a little their is a slight hint of porter in flavor. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium to dark ambery red with a large, sudsy, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. Straight line after straight line of it. The aroma was raspberry with a hint of roasted malt. The initial flavor was moderately acidic, while the finish was lightly sweet, moderately bitter and sour with an average to long duration. The flavor was mostly raspberry with a hint of roasted malt. The light to medium body was kind of watery with fizzy carbonation with a metallic and light astringent finish.

Bottle courtesy of HogtownHarry. Garnite coloured brew with pretty good clarity for a porter. Head doesn’t hang around long. Smell- potent raspberry jam scent and some chocolate. Taste- raspeberry flavour isn’t as pronounced as I expected from the nose. Comes and goes somewhat quickly leaving behind a thin bodied porter. Malt isn’t overly complex and is dry in finish. Some dry chocolate notes, but that’s about it. Finish is pretty watery.

Red hued dark brown, distinct raspberry aroma. Medium bodied, dry with a slight amount of raspberry present. Well balanced for a fruit beer.

Southern Tier Raspberry Porter is a deep raspberry brown in color, with great clarity and a splotch of a faded khaki head that leaves great lacing. The fresh raspberry aroma is loud and seems very authentic. It is a bit sweet in the nose and some smoky malt balances that out. It is medium-to-full bodied and quite smooth. The finish is pretty dry. The raspberry is not as prominent in the flavor as it is in the aroma. It tastes a bit like chocolate cake with fresh raspberries, served with a cup of coffee. The sweetness never gets out of hand, nor does the green bitterness or the roastiness. Great balance. If you try one fruit beer, make it this one.

A: I’m of the opinion that a good fruit beer needs a solid base beer first. This one isn’t dark enough for my taste. It is a dark mahogany color with a quarter inch off white head. S: Raspberry. A little tartness. Nothing from a classic porter aroma. T: There’s so much raspberry that it’s all I can taste. I can’t taste anything reminiscent of a porter in there anywhere. M: The body is a bit light, but the carbonation is nice. D: It almost tastes more like a framboise than a porter, even a raspberry porter. There is no porter in there at all. Not a bad beer, just not a porter of any kind.

Pours brown. Smells of fruit. Doesn’t really feel too much like a porter. The taste is mostly raspberry. Highly carbonated. Has that seltzer water aftertaste that most fruit beers seem to have.

Deep burgundy appearance with a small off white head and good lacing. Raspberries overshadow everything else in the aroma. Fruity, roasted malt taste, decently hopped, finishes on a dry, earthy note. Palate may be a little thin for a porter; more like a cross between a scharzbier and a fruit beer. Nevertheless, enjoyable.

12 oz. bottle via trade with jasonmech77 and Ughsmash - Pours a clear brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Very light spotty lacing. Aroma is raspberries and faint toasted malt. Flavor is raspberries and light caramel malt. Light to medium body. No lingering aftertaste. Not bad at all. Thanks Jason.
