Bottle. Clear ruby-brown color with a smallish head. Good retention. Aroma of roasted malts and raspberries. Tastes of raspberry and dark malt in near equal proportions, with some chocolate. Very watery and a rare disappointment from a good brewer.

Pours a reddish-brown color with a light tan head. Aroma is mostly raspberry with slight roasted malts, chocolate, and molasses. Flavor is sweet at first with the raspberries and has a hint underneath of the roasted malts and chocolate. Too much raspberry.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2009 12oz bottle from a six pack purchased at Beers of the World. Poured into an imperial pint it looks a little thin, but the color is a deep purple. Head is a thin layer of swirly white cream. Aroma is mostly raspberry. Its subtle but obvious. Pleasant to just sniff. The flavor is raspberry flavored, but I’m really not tasting the porter piece. The raspberry is nice, but there isn’t enough chocolate or roast to complement the fruitiness. Pleasant to drink, and decent enough. But not at the level of artistry I was hoping for. Southern Tier has some really cutting edge beers, but they also have the ones that keep them in business. This is one of those beers.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2007 tried this as an experiment @ the empty pint. the bartender was pretty excited about it, i didn’t realize they were actually brewing it. poured a dark ruby brown with a cream head. aroma is raspberry, coffee, milk, sweet. taste is the same, light raspberry, milk, coffee, chocolate. tastes like a raspberry mocha. mouthfeel is very light for a porter. goes down pretty smooth, almost a little too smooth. pretty sweet. might be a little much for some, but i think it’s a nice winter treat.

Bottle from State Line. Deep blackish pour with ruby edges and 1-finger off-white head. Nice aroma of fresh raspberries, some dark malt, and some dark chocolate. Tastes dark malty, with a decent fresh raspberry flavor, plus some late chocolate and nutty notes. Medium palate. This one was a nice style.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2008 12oz Bottle. Poured a deep dark red body with nice head. Aroma is of syrupy raspberries, light milk chocolate. Flavor is sweet berries, light roast, milk chocolate, caramel. A decent dessert beer.

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2007 On tap @ Coles Buffalo NY. Nice raspberry aroma. cola looking color. no body here at all. basically a raker cola colored version of their raspberry wheat. some caramel malts. slight , very slight porter flavor but overall disappointed. If your looking for raspberry you,ll be happy but this doesn’t live up to the expectations Southern Tier has set for itself
