BillKismet (1899), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 2, 2009 Pours a deep brown, nearly black beer with a firm head. Aroma is a pleasant symphony of raspberry and chocolate and malt with an understated roastiness. Flavor is not as a complex, but still represents a good mix of raspberry and light chocolate with a slight bitter chocolate finish, and some hoppiness. Easy roastiness, quite drinkable, and pairs excellently with chocolate deserts. REDBOSOX (70), Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, USA Jan 2, 2009 This is a pretty good beer. The raspberry is definitely noticeable in this one, although the taste is a bit more sour than usual. Not as sweet as I expected. A good beer in my opinion although I’ve had better. Drink one of those authentic Belgian framboise beers and you’ll understand why. Still, the price is not bad for this beer. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Dec 28, 2008 Clear mahogany pour with almost no ring of light tan head. Same wonderful sweet raspberry nose as the wheat, but just a tick lower. Flavor is sweet fake raspberry flavorings and a malty base. but I dont care for the tart fruity finish or the beer overall. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Dec 21, 2008 Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting at Dogbricks on 12/4/08. Brown in color with a one inch off-white head. Fruity raspberry aroma that smells mostly like candy. Flavor of raspberry and hop. Does not taste much like a porter. ehhdayton (1113), USA Dec 15, 2008 Pours a dark brown with hints of red and a tan head. Aroma is nothing but raspberry. Initial flavor is sweet raspberry and nothig else. After a few more sips a slight roasted flavor comes through but the raspberry dominates and does not balance well. Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Dec 12, 2008 On tap at David Copperfield Pub New York 20-11-08. Pours deep reddy/amber with a white head. Aroma is sweet raspberry. The taste is instantly raspberry but it’s a bit artificial tasting for my liking. I find this a little thin and insubstantial, its fine but there are times when you are drinking it and barely notice. A6 A3 F6 P3 OV 13 3.1 mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Dec 12, 2008 bottle thanks to ilovedarkbeer. deep brown almost black pour with no head. raspberries and chocolate on the nose. roasted malts and a tiny bit of raspberry in the flavor. Dogbrick (2816), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 8, 2008 Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting on 12/4/08: The beer pours a deep brownish amber color with a medium thin and creamy light beige head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Has an aroma akin to raspberry cough syrup, along with notes of roasted malt. Medium body with a strong tart raspberry flavor that is borderline astringent. Light malt sweetness and some chocolate prevents it from crashing. The finish is fruity with mildly roasty aftertaste. Just average overall.
