The color was ruby/brown. The head frothy and off-white. The aroma was raspberry, chocolate, sweet, and candy. The flavor was tobacco, raspberry, burnt, and bran. The palate was very carbonated. The finish was abrupt.

12oz - The nose and appearance are fabulous. It sets you in the mood for a raspberry filled chocolate cake. I sometimes drink my dinner, so I hoped I might be able to drink dessert too. On the palate you get that for the briefest of moments before the bitter hops kill the whole thing. Body is kind of limp too. Not for me.

12oz bottle. Aroma: Light roasted malt with some chocolate. Raspberry is pleasant with sweet and lightly sour notes, but smells more like an extract than real fruit. Appearance: Medium brown in color with rusty orange highlights. Light khaki head was full and foamy with fair retention. Fair lacing. Flavor: Roasted malt with chocolate and light nutiness. Raspberry is more prominent in the nose than in the flavor. Some fruity sweetness and a light sourness mid taste. Palate: Medium-light bodied and watery. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Not so good. One dimensional, finishes flat, and watery. Disappointing.

This brew poured a dark and deep reddish color. There was a small amount of head that disappeared quickly. This beer smell strongly of raspberries and had a very watery feel in the mouth. This beer tasted mostly of raspberries and just a hint of chocolate malt. This beer was very easy to drink but a little too sweet for my liking.

Southern Tier Raspberry Porter is a deep raspberry brown in color, with great clarity and a splotch of a faded khaki head that leaves great lacing. The fresh raspberry aroma is loud and seems very authentic. It is a bit sweet in the nose and some smoky malt balances that out. It is medium-to-full bodied and quite smooth. The finish is pretty dry. The raspberry is not as prominent in the flavor as it is in the aroma. It tastes a bit like chocolate cake with fresh raspberries, served with a cup of coffee. The sweetness never gets out of hand, nor does the green bitterness or the roastiness. Great balance. If you try one fruit beer, make it this one.

I have to say that this is my first disapointment from Southern Tier. I absolutely love their beers, especially the Jah-Va. First off, this is not a porter. This is a very thin brown ale. There is a watery raspberry taste. Not dark at all, quite translucent and light. Taste is a watered down, weak brown with a splash of raspberry kool-aid tossed in. I honestly chugged the second half of the glass to just be done with it. Something went terribly awry here. I love their "Big Beer" series, but this one horribly missed. Avoid this beer. If you’re a fan of the style, try the Weyerbacher Raspberry Imperial Stout instead. Cheers!

12 oz bottle...smells like malty raspberries....a malt ball with a raspberry in the center....looks like a pepsi with a beige head...thin body---watery raspberry flavor, not very impressive...a weird sour bitter finish...not enjoyable....raspberries turned for the worse...the only thing this beer has going is the simple aroma, which even that ive smelled better

Bottle served, reddish brown with a medium, off white head. Aroma of raspberry extract, bread & yeast. Flavor of raspberry candy, cocoa & a hint of coffee. Watery & too light bodied to be a porter. Not a favorite combo as a fruit beer.OK dryness in the finish. Not a repeat preference.
