JesseM (595), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 29, 2009 355mL bottle from the LCBO. Pours a surprisingly pale gold with a small white cap. Blonde? What? Rasberry’s are red aren’t they? At least it smells like rasberries, and pretty much nothing else. Maybe a tiny bit of wheat malt. Flavour is just bland, and suffers from the same unpleasant dryness I get from a lot of fruity wheat beers (that are filtered and probably used extract or synthetic flavouring). Tastes like rasberry sweetness and boring wheat malts. Bizarre aftertaste of something that seems less than natural (probably extract). It’s like the LCBO strives to bring us the most mediocre-at-best beer they can find. wilderthanyou (371), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Jun 28, 2009 I Love Southern Tier i just wish the LCBO would get some common sense and pick some of there really good beers instead of just there really mediocre beers. As far as raspberry wheat beers go, this one has pretty weak game but I still enjoyed it. Pours a weak fizzy yellow with a thin white head which instantly dies. The aroma as you can imagine is raspberry syrup, and maybe the lightest hints of grassy hops. The flavour is pretty much the same with a sweet raspberry flavour upfront, some dry wheat in the middle, and then just carbonation flavour in the end. Pretty flippin one dimensional, may aswell have not even bothered to call this a wheat beer, but still not offensive in anyway. TheJester (599), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jun 28, 2009 355 mL bottle. Bubbly golden with a fluffy and persistent white head. Smells like that raspberry flavouring you get in kids drinks or flavoured water. Not terrible, but not very "real." Flavour is sweet raspberry syrup, wheat, cardboard, bubbles, and artificial sweetener. Not so good. Dry, tinny finish. Thin. PaulHegedus (364), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Jun 28, 2009 Bottle. This is a transparent golden colour with a one inch white head. Aroma of raspberry bubblegum. Mouthfeel is quite thin, a bit spritzy. This tastes a bit like a raspberry fountain pop, or like a slurpee minus the ice. I taste some wheat with raspberry syrup flavour, some light hops. Finish is short. pootzboy (970), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta, Canada Jun 25, 2009 12 oz bottle:
Pours a lightly hazed gold ale in the wheat glass. Smallish white cap with modest lacing.
Aromas are promising biscuity, straw and ample berry perfumes, dominate the nose.
Fairly light on the palate, biscuity wheat malts light hop herbalness but the unmalted wheat and berry tartness gang up to dry up the drink in the finish.
Nice dry refreshing drink for a summer patio but seeing how there is no berry color in the brew I suspect essence was used instead of raw fruit and the whole formula dashed together for a quick summer seasonal. Not bad but certainly not ST’s best effort. VeloVampire (459), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 25, 2009 355 ml bottle - pours a very light clear greenish gold with a thin head. Aroma of raspberry juice and pale malt. Nice. However, the raspberry that is comes across as "natural" in the aroma comes across as very artificial, almost like fluoride in the flavour. There’s a touch of hop bitterness in the finish, and that strange faux-raspberry taste lingers too long. All in all, a decent enough fruit beer, but not one I’ll revisit. Imperial-John (145), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Jun 23, 2009 Clear golden with quickly disappearing white head. Raspberry aroma. Raspberry perfume taste, not my cup of tea. Where’s the wheat? Snoop59 (59), Penn Run, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 22, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear, light yellow color with a large, fizzy white head that dissipated to a thin head and lasted throughout. Little to no lacing on the glass. The aroma is of raspberries, pure raspberries. Flavor is initially raspberries, followed by a slight malty sweetness and closes with a bitter, dry finish. Light bodied. Highly carbonated.
