bottled, huge thanks to skykob for bringing this bomber back from the states. hazy bright light orange-coloured with a lingering, fluffy white head; aroma of curacao, yeast funk, green peppercorns; soft texture, no way i would believe it was a double saison; beautiful balance of barny funk, citrus, minerals and fresh herbs. probably my favourite new beer of 2014

phaleslu (6837) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 2, 2014
750 ml bottle from Market Wines, opened with family at Thanksgiving. Pours a somewhat cloudy gold with a finger of white head that settles after a while. Notes of lemongrass, lemon, bready and doughy malts, florals, pepper, melon, straw, and a hint of banana. Light-medium bodied, with a floral, bready mouthfeel and moderate to medium carbonation. Nice, and paired well with the food, but didn’t leave a lasting impression. Good, if not memorable.

Pours golden honey. Slight smell of lemongrass with a strong ipa. Taste is awesome. You can really taste the lemongrass.

jercraigs (8070) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 27, 2014
2014-11-21. Dark yellow body with a small frothy white head. 3+ Modest cereally grains in aroma, fruit, lemongrass. 7+ Flavour is similar, with a sweet pale malt core. Biscuity touches, lemongrass and moderate bitterness and more lemongrass in the finish, it has a lightly Belgian quality to it. Smooth average plus body, good carbonation. Enjoyable. Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo.

22oz bottle. Pours cloudy orange with a thick white head-looks amazing! Aroma of citrus, yeasty, very light hop background. Taste is bitter and slightly sour/salty. Flavors of peppercorn, lemon, other citrus, fresh herbs. Good balance and complexity. Great yeasty brew that paired well with Thanksgiving dinner.

25.4oz bottle, DOB 04/09/14. Nose is very tart, faintly grassy but lots of citrus, lemon principally, some cream and spice, edging from pepper though floral tones. Pours dull orange with slightly below-average carbonation and a tight, soapy beige head. Taste is lightly sweet and strongly tart (though I’d never call it sour, not in that league), very spritzy and zesty with low bitterness and medium-strong spicing. Touch peppery, touch grassy, lots of lemons, mild lilac and stronger roses. Definite wheat component that also tastes and feels like buckwheat at times. Smooth and very malty, there’s some mild crispness from the carbonation to start but the mouthfeel is malty and a joy to swish around for the depth. Alcohol very well under control, seems more like 4% most of the time, some yeast coming into play to lemon-and-chalk-up the tongue in the aftertaste. Touch of nutmeg and allspice down low, though I think those are yeast metabolites. Bold flavors throughout but subtle and refined, medium body with balance coming from multiple angle, super refreshing, surprised at how approachable this is and how it never tries to bludgeon or smother me. Probably the cleanest-fermented and most level-headed of the 33 beers I’ve had from ST, maybe the most mature, and for that reason probably my favorite.

mansquito (3572) - Nueva York, New York, USA - NOV 1, 2014
The Beer Store, Southampton PA 750ml: Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is lemongrass, citrus, Belgian yeast, farmhouse funk. Taste is dry and quite citrusy. Alcohol is well covered; nothing is overwhelming. As others have said, this is subtle and doesn’t try to go over the top. Quite good otherwise.

bottle. Hazy golden with one finger head. Lightly tart with some lemon. Quite a bit of funk. Light fruit flavors with some grain. On the subtle side, but very well constructed.

A very nice saison. Well crafted. Aromas of Belgian farmhouse yeast, and candied citrus. Flavors are Belgian candy yeast, lemon and soap. Quite nice.
