Belgian Style Saison

Beerenberger (1414) - Fischer, Texas, USA - AUG 19, 2014
Aroma is typical of a Saison - slight barnyard, and citrus, with spice notes. A hazy golden yellow pour with a quickly disapearings foamy white head and minimal lacing. The taste is Belgian yeast, spice, citrus, and a touch of fruit sweetness. Medium-light body with fizzy carbonation. Dry finish. Overall, a very nice Saison. It had a body fullness unusual for a Saison and quite spicy.

750 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse, opened 6/11/14. Pours a hazy peach color with a medium sized fizzy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of citrus, lemongrass, tropical fruits, yeast, mild spice, pale malt. The taste is bready malts, spice, apples, tropical fruits, yeast, mild herbal hops. Medium bodied, mild carbonation, decent balance.

Hazy golden color with lasting white froth. Spicy peppercorn, lemongrass, dusty pils malt, fruity aromas. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Citrusy lemon wheat flavors with light to medium peppery phenolics, pit fruits, bananas---tasty.

750 ml bottle. Im not used to seeing this size bottle from Southern Tier. Pours a lightly hazed pale gold with a moderate-large white head that lasted until the second sip and left scant lace. Pleasant aroma of lemon (lemongrass) along with a few alcohol notes. The flavor is more substantial with fruity Belgian yeast, lemon, and malt all present. Lightly tart at the finish with very mild bitterness. Enjoyable.

Bottle. Cloudy yellow pour with a white head, nice lacing. Sweet and mild, some subtle spices, very fruity. Low carbonation. Quite a nice and original saison.

Bottle. Peppery, lemongrass aroma. Golden body with thin head. Flavor begins with clove, yeast and lemongrass, followed by spice, wheat and hop notes. Crisp and dry with a peppery aftertaste.

This poured a hazy orange with a white head. Aroma was of floral charachter, bread, and booze. Flavor was again floral, lightly spicey, breast and way too strong.

Hazy golden straw pour with ample pillowtop near white head. It was pretty good and had a suprisingly high abv. Starts citrus/lemonzesty but has quite the black peppery kick on the end. Refreshing, but a little syrupy sweetness as well. Not bad, but not something Id need to seek out again.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2014 Sampled on draft at 3R6 this beer poured a murky bright orange-peach color with a small foamy white head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was bitter and tart grapefruit, orange, must, pepper and yeast. The flavor was tart and bitter pepper, chamomile, wildflower, herbs, orange, grapefruit, must and bread. Long finish with ever growing wildflower. Moderately full bodied. Interesting.

Poured from a bottle with a fine bubbled head and a beautifully clear transparent golden color. Smells of hay with a small amount of fruit and citrus. Overall it's quite pungent. Kind of a complex flavor with lots of layers. Starts refreshing with hints of citrus. It then transitions to notes of herb and sweet malt which trails off to a spiciness like a mild hot pepper. I really like it.
