radagast83 (1036), Springfield, Virginia, USA Aug 16, 2008 Pours a light amber color with a frothy white head. Aroma of hops, sugar, and yeast. Flavor is relatively hoppy, and pretty sweet. It’s decent, but not as good as the rest of the Southern Tier selection. kyzr (909), Bozeman, Montana, USA Jul 29, 2008 Clear cold with bright white head. Nose of yeast and spice. Flavor is rather sweet, with some hints of spice, but really really sweat. Texture is heavy and really thick. Has a bitter finish to it. MrBeerFanatic (197), jamestown, New York, USA Jul 29, 2008 Pours a medium bodied amber/dark yellow with an off white semi frothy head. Has a nice aroma of piney hops, candy, and some yeast. The flavor is somewhat like a strong IPA but lacks a strong hop character. It does have a piney and floral hoppy note. There’s also notes of barely. Pretty bitter at the end. Haven’t had that many triples but this one isn’t bad. Southern tier has much better beer out there than this(not implying this is a bad beer). JohnQPublic (146), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jul 19, 2008 Draft at the Southern Tier Brewpub (The Empty Pint). Pours a slightly hazy dark gold with a white head. Aroma is light, a bit sweet with a faint floral hop note, not very spicy or fruity. Taste is biscuity malt up front, hint of caramel, with a big, grassy, floral, earthy hop presence that lingers on the palate. Yeast is extremely subdued for the style, seemingly replaced by the big hop presence. Also missing is any candy sweetness or ripe fruit note. Very odd to call this a tripel. Hank1980 (343), Athens, Georgia, USA Jul 7, 2008 Bomber. Pours a cloudy gold with a small white head. Nose is a little weak, with fruit, sugar, and a little yeast. Taste is also fruity, a little yeasty, sweet, and lightly malted. The taste is similar with a little spice and a little booze. Not much carbonation for a tripel, leaving a little bit of a "flat" impression. Overall, not a bad brew, but not up to some of the other gems from ST.
