Ungstrup (14714), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 1, 2009 Bottled. An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of fruit. The flavor is seet with notes of fruit and alcohol, leading to A dry bitter finish. yespr (11589), Copenhagen O, Denmark Feb 1, 2009 22 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with a diminished white head. Dry and mild wheaty malty aroma. Mild orange fruity to citric with a dry phenolic note. Bitter and slight yeasty finish with a distinct dry finish. Dry, spiced and mellow yeasty but somewhat rough and not with the expected mellewness and smoothness. FatPhil (3434), Espoo, Finland Feb 1, 2009 660ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, American Weeks 2009)
Hazy yellow, small head. Honey in the aroma. Soft sweet malty body. Actually, make that sickly sweet. Not an unpleasant taste, a bit boring, but it’s the sweetness that has to go. Skinnyviking (4101), Copenhagen, Denmark Feb 1, 2009 Bottle. Medium high and lasting off-white head. Slightly hazy yellow to peach coloured body. Fruity and hoppy aroma with notes of soap. Astonishingly mild and fruity flavor in spite of the high alcohol percentate. Low carbonation and a long aftertaste. Miksu (2175), Jyväskylä, Finland Jan 31, 2009 0.65 l bottle at Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Orange color with small head. Sweetish, resiny, fruity, herbal and resiny aroma with tropical fruits, peach and orange. Fruity, resinuous, herbal and orangey flavor with hint of solvent. This one had very weird resinous aroma and flavor which I didn’t like. Theis (3617), Denmark Jan 28, 2009 Bottle at home - shared with Morten, David & Mette. Cloudy yellow - white head. Fruity, sweetness, nice hoppy, spicy, peppery, light soapy, syrupy, licorice, light rye, candy, a bit too sweet. Ughsmash (3973), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jan 23, 2009 Bomber, at least a year old. Poured clear, somewhat pale golden with a short, splotchy cap of white head. The aroma picked up hearty orange peel and peppery esters over a fruity and pale malt base.. some warmth was evident, but it held together nicely. The flavor was a tad more assertive with sweet honey and pale malts (laced with alcohol) at the core.. orange zest showed with spicy esters on the edges, with the orange having a slightly candied appeal.. finished rather sweet and warm. Medium-plus bodied and spicy on the palate.. too sweet for my liking for a tripel, but I cannot deny that it had some tasty moments. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 22, 2009 In short: An overly sugary sweet simplistic strong Belgian blonde ale
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed relatively fresh a few months after getting it through private importation.
The look: Clear light-golden body topped by a short-lived medium white head
In long: Shy nose of basic pale dried fruits. Taste is annoyingly sugary sweet, way way too much residual candy sugar in there. Fruity notes limited to a light pineapples juice, citrus and dried pineapples. A little dust and dry grass in the finish but overall the sugary sweetness crushes everything subtleties the beer may have had. An inferior beer from a brewery whose tradition in fine Belgian ales is only matched by its tradition of fine Thai cuisine.
