vyvvy (1582), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Apr 19, 2008 Southern Tier is in MO - Whoo hoo!! This was a beautiful start to my first ’known fresh’ bottle from the brewery. Purs light copper / golden with a nice sized off-white head. The aroma has luscious floral and piny hop traits with some tropical / pineapple notes as well. There may be a bit of wheat hiding behind all of the hops. Medium body that starts slick, but quickly feels crisp and finishes resiny with light foamy carbonation. The flavor begins with some sweetness with tropical hop traits, then pine and floralness. The finish is very dry with woodiness, pine, spice and light abv showing through. This is not exactly balance ~ mainly hops, but the hops are not harsh so it comes over incredibly pleasant. Very enjoyable and worth checking out.
DragonStout (1138), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 16, 2008 Thanx to BeerVirgin for sending this my way.Pours a nice cloudy golden color with a small frothy white head.Nose is citrusy with a hop presence.Flavor was sweet with a small hoppiness. This finished off slightly bitter.Thank you Dawn for this! sleepylopes (255), New York, USA Jul 10, 2008 über sun may be the big brother of hop sun but he is the looser in the family. The beer is not bad but it did not live up to expectations. Melon herbal hops and sweet booz throughout. Sweetie finish I was looking for something big but crisp. mdm46410 (514), Griffith, Indiana, USA Jul 9, 2008 Poured from a 22oz bomber and served in a shaker. This beer poured a golden amber with a very light haze and a thin head of creamy, off-white foam that slightly lasted. Very good lacing. The aroma of the beer was made up of oranges, pine needles, graham cracker, and some wheat. The flavor included bitter pine, grapefruit, and a hint of wheat. Just plain bittter without much of anything else to help provide balance. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with light carbonation. Not bad, but not really my thing. Kind of boring. MrBeerFanatic (185), jamestown, New York, USA Jul 9, 2008 Pours medium bodied amber with a white head. Has a pleasing aroma of juicy hops(pine) with a little wheat. Has the flavor of piney hops, hint of wheat, and a hint of caramel. Semi sweet, dry bitter finish, refreshing, balanced and clean. Um you might as well call this a IIPA as it tastes almost the same all around, except for the down tone of the wheat which isn’t very prevalent. All around, this is an excellent beer and I’m glad I can pick up one of these just a few miles away any time. pepsican (640), the beer wastelands of, Iowa, USA Jul 6, 2008 Light amber pour with a medium sized white head. Aroma is orange citrus hops and a bit of lemon. Flavor was crisp orange, wheat, citrus hops, grain, and a bit of a bit of alcohol. Finishes pretty boozy, medium hop bitterness. The aroma of this is great, but the flavor doesn’t quite match up. Still a good beer.
