Bottle with Dan. Pours dark orange with no head. Aroma of fresh hops, a little pungent and light grapefruit notes. The grapefruit aroma is almost citrusy. Very smooth tasting, some light sweetness, and some grapefruit on the Backend. Surprised not hoppier, but that’s ok. Good balance with malt. Very good beer

Nice beer. Smells of big hops and malty. Very thick mouthfeel but still drinkable, although not session style at 11 ABV. This is a rich resiny hopped beer but it is nice.

Pours a thick orange with sediment. Massive sweet malts on the nose. Floral and biscuit aromas too. Sweet sugary front...bitter pine tree hoppiness on the back end. Slick and sticky palate. Awesome.

In the bottle from 99 Bottles in Federal Way, WA: Port-like aroma gives an indicator of just how the hoppy beer is going to demand respect. It’s not to be treated like a light bordeaux; it’s almost like a dessert wine - strong, syrupy and with a lot of flavor forward, not just hops either (flavors of raisins and hops combine with the aroma of vanilla and licorice) - and should be treated as such. A nice find, but with the high alcohol content, it will be a rare pleasure.

Very good IPA with a good balance of caramel, hops and yeast character, Just only feel the 11% after drinking!

Good smell, alcohol and hops. Good but not super original. Flroals, hops, pouers pale ale-like with a little lacing but not much. I much prefer their double IPA to this one. Not worth the high price at LCBO.

Originally reviewed: 11/11/09. No date on the bottle. Poured into my goblet. Pours a hazy amber/orange with an inch’s worth of off-white head on top. Dissipates to just a ring around the edge. Leaves plenty of gorgeous sticky lace on the glass. The scent is a little underwhelming. Smells sweet, but the big hoppy citrus punch I expect is absent. In its place is a sweet graham cracker, brown sugar, molasses scent. Some light pine on the finish. The mouth is slightly syrupy. Mild carbonation on the tongue. For the multiple hops used in this beer, and in what forms they were used, I am also a little underwhelmed by the flavor. Some light citrus tones at the onset, but very low bitterness. The sweetness continues here as well. Lots of caramel and toffee in this beer. Mild bitter finish, but it fades quickly. Huh. I’m going to assume that this bottle had some age on it. Please regard this review as such. All in all, a good beer for sure, but just shadows of what I think it is meant to be. I would love to try a fresh bottle and compare my findings. For all I know this IS a fresh bottle. Still, I’d recommend this beer.

Really good Imperial IPA. The nose is full of citrus and floral hops with notes of butter and sweet caramel like malt. The beer is orange copper with a full lacy white head which packs to a dense creaminess. The taste is malt sweet with citrus and floral hops and a light butter/diacetyl flavor which adds a nice richness. The body is medium to thick with a creamy velvet finish. For a 9.5% beer the alcoh is masked well and not overwhelming.

Pours a dark amber with foamy white head. A complex rich dark fruity malt and spiced hops aroma. A equally complex taste. Notes of brown sugar, burnt whisky, oak, tobacco, honey and dark cherry. Oak is quite prominent. Hops are also prominent but not overpowering. Very rich and flavorful yet has a mellow mouthfeel. Feels like I should be smoking a cigar while sipping this.

Pours a hazy orange amber with a small white head. The aroma is citrus and earthy hops with notes of candied orange. The taste is fruity and hoppy with a firm malt backing, light sweetness, and heavy bitterness. Falls into the category of good, but not great.
