My bottle shared with a bunch of fine folks. Malty, earthy taste. Oily, resiny, lots of body. Medium orange with a solid white head. Very hoppy, balanced, and extremely drinkable (11%? No way). Best of the tasting for me and one of Southern Tier’s best yet.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2007 January 2007. Did not take detailed notes on this one, but it was fantastic, all I wrote down was "+1 to 2 aroma, and +1 flavour". Great stuff! <P> May 2006. Bottle. Dark orangey amber body with a moderate beige head. Big resiny hops in the aroma carry over to the flavour, with just a hint of citrus. Pleasant supporting malt. Medium bodied palate (3+). I personally like more citrus in my IPAs but this is quite nice and dangerously quaffable at such a high alcohol content. Very nice. 7/3/8/4/17 - 3.9

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc, tupalev, DougShoemaker, R and others - tupalev’s bottle. Bright clear deepish copper with an average head. Some fruity malt sweetness, but mostly hops - resin + citrus - not overwhelming, solid. Taste features the hops even more, rich, almost oily resiny bitter hops, with a very long bitter finish, enough somewhat nutty light roast malt to keep the bitterness somewhat in check. Quite an astringent mouthfeel - made me thirsty! - with a very long finish and I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw 11% ABV - I couldn’t detect much alcohol character at all, scary. Great I2PA, right up there with most of them.

Nose of pine, burnt resin, some alcohol, fruit & perfume. Pours a clear copper. The sticky, fluffy, off-white head has average retention & good lace. The flavor is cereal malt entwined with alcohol warmth & hops blast. Tastes intricately knitted. The finish is bready, bittersweet, and acidic. The full body is syrupy, and soft.

Holy shit. This was insane. Like a mango citrus sorbet. The nose was like some fancy dessert at a nice restaurant. Taste wasn’t quiet as good. Kind of syrupy and alcoholic but still there was some nice fruity notes with the citrus hops

TAR (2518) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - MAY 8, 2006
Rusty orange. Dying dirty-white foam. Piney and fruity aroma of peach and mango. Fairly alcoholic with soft caramel overtones. Firm, airy carbonation. Viscous body. Hops immediately unleash their gooey teeth-clinging resins coupled with a poignantly bitter pine-laced sting which momentarily deadens any acidity that might hinder the body. Alcohol and airiness manage to lift the heavy oils from the palate while the scarcest touch of malt lies buried beneath the unrelenting hop assault. Prevalent sappiness stops just shy of becoming overbearingly sweet, as there’s just enough complimentary brightness to keep it at bay. Extremely oily hop character comes off as being overly raw and pungent, but the softer floral elements distract you from the approaching uncleanliness. The body and brightness are drastically affected as it takes on a disagreeable combination of mushy grapefruit and leafy acidity late in the swallow. Delayed spicy flourish of alcohol and hops also imparts more dirtiness. Finishes deceptively bitter due to how sappy it is, and quite hot with a fuzzily defined blend of peaches bathed in honey. Overall, the carbonation is too hard and the hop flavors become muddled and monotonous halfway through the bottle. Little more than another run-of-the-mill DIPA. Thanks ElJefe.

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2009 Draught: Great aroma. Scent was very hoppy, with hints of pine, blueberry, and resin. Really a nice scent. Poured a copperish amber color. Clear. No particles. Big white, frothy, creamy head. Micro bubbles. Head lasted. Great lacing. Looks perfect. Flavor was pure hops. Piney, with hints of blueberry. Heavily bitter and mildly sweet. Lasting, bitter, piney finish. Medium to full body. Syrupy. Lively carbonation. Very balanced. I’d prefer much drier for this amount of bitterness. Overall, a very good IPA but , but a bit too sweet, especially in the finish. If only the finish were drier and more bitter this could be my perfect beer.

DL post release gathering, thanks to El Jefe I believe: Coppery hue with a small frothy head and some lace. The aroma has notes of grapefruit, crab apple, pine, caramel and toffee, earthy yeast esters, and a bit of alcohol vapors.

The taste starts very balanced with a spicy and twangy hop profile over a Carmel and biscuity background. Lot of indifferent fruity notes about followed by an earthy dry finish which is quite astringent. The feel is sharp and oily, lively as well.

Really good a solid brew, but not your standard IIPA except in ABV (which is moderate). I would gladly try it again.

On tap at Drafting Room (and at Hopdog’s a few weeks ago, courtesy of egajdzis). Poured a deep copper color with a big white head. The aroma was sweet citrusy hops and a little fresh mowed grass. Flavors are sweet lemongrass ith a grainy finish. Medium palate. Good beer.
