3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Growler from Central Liquors. Hints of citrus in the aroma, but not much going on other than that. Slight carbonation on the pours, syrup-like palate as I’ve seen in other double IPAs. Nice malty sweetness, not as hoppy as I expected based on other reviews. Something funky in the aftertaste, a tad more malty than I like in double/imperial IPAs, something lacking in the hop presence though the overall bitterness is there. All in all I like ST’s 2X IPA better.

Clear Orange pour with nice white head. Aroma is hoppy citrus. Taste is sweet caramelized orange. Not usually a fan of ipas this sweet, but this was dam good. Use this as an intermediate beer for the new comers.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle: Murky amber-copper, nearly opaque with an off-white, semi-chunky, two-finger layer of foam. Decent lacing. Spicy hop aroma... Certainly earthy. Moderate resins & pine with a largely sweet, caramely malt backbone full of toasted, slightly under-attenuated maltiness. Big, heavy, sticky, thick mouth feel, almost too "robust" for a DIPA. Hops give off flavors of spicy white pepper, coriander, grapefruit rind, alpha oil, resin, lemon & orange zest, almost with a PineSol vibe. Liberal malt; heavy caramel, toffee, even a touch of honey or molasses injecting a big sweetness. Sticky brew with a slight metallic & stale off-tone in the aftertaste. I’ve had this one a few times now, & while I don’t think it’s "bad" per se, I never understand the high(ish) ratings it gets. Too sweet for me.

Well balanced. Nice hoppiness. Not too bitter. Malt notes balance the hops well. Notes of honey in the finish really stick to the palate.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a shade darker than the typical DIPA amber with a smallish head of fine foam. The smell of the beer was earthy, a little citric, and milder than I was hoping. The taste was more hop-centric than the smell, as the citric flavors seemed to kick into overdrive at the start of the sip. The beer stayed citric mid palette, and allowed a touch of watermelon to slip in towards the end of the sip. The finish was surprisingly a little sweet, and the aftertaste was herbal. This was quite complex for the style. The body was medium dense and the feel sticky. A balanced DIPA.

The malt is a bit overpowering. Some honey and sweetness aroma notes. Too much malt and not enough hop bitterness for my preference.

Transfer from BA review on 8-18-12 -
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a orange/amber color with a one finger white head. The head faded fast to give a decent level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a sweet and citrus hop aroma. The citrus is mainly grapefruit in nature with the sweet being of a caramel aroma. Mixed with these are other hop aromas of a earthy and piney nature.
Taste – The taste begins with some caramel sweetness and a good dose of bread and a citrus hop flavor. As the taste moves on the bready flavor grows stronger and is joined by more hops of a earthy and pine nature. Toward the end the earthy flavors overwhelm the citrus. With this larger earthy taste comes a nice oaky flavor which in the end creates a woody taste that is left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel is slightly higher than average in thickness with a carbonation level that is rather moderate. It is rather fitting for the brew’s oaky and hoppy flavors; allowing all the tastes to sit on the tongue and be experienced, but yet giving just enough carbonation to give an invigorating mouthfeel.
Overall – A tasty more earthy and woody flavored IPA. A nice one to try.

amber color; citrusy hop aroma; a great, very hoppy, bitter IPA with lots of citrusy hop character and a medium bodied malt base and warm alcohol notes

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
poured from a 22oz bomber, this is a clear orange color with a nice head. I liked the over-ripe fruit aroma and flavor, though my son (who likes sours) did not. The smell is of ripe apricots or plums or cherries, with a bit of pine or spruce resin added when tasted. Mouthfeel is average carbonation, slightly boozy and a bittersweet aftertaste
