Pours the color of cola with an off white head which disappears quickly. Aroma is burnt pumpkin pie. Taste is quite interesting......cherry, birch flavor, slight coffee, touch of chocolate.

If this is retired on this website, why did the last guy review it in March? Ok, well, I know its not retired. But this is reviewed from notes from December of 2013. The appearance was a jet black colored body with a thin to half finger white foamy head that quickly dies leaving barely any lacing. The smell like ST took "Pumking" and threw it in a stout and upped the ABV, yep its a Double Stout for ya, roasty chocolate coming up combining into the "Pumking" flavoring with a light cinnamon. The taste takes the Pumking with some cinnamon and roasty chocolate-ness coming through, light chocolate covered "Pumking" aftertaste and a dry finish. On the palate, it sits about a medium, somewhat sessionable but I sipped this one. Carbonation is wonderful for a Double Stout - somewhat smooth yet there’s a slight crisp element which I like. Overall, so in reality this is "Pumking" thrown into a stout and I believe that’s what Southern Tier did and I believe it turned out the way they wanted. However, with me, since I’m not a true fan of Pumking, but won’t bust on this too much since the stout tries to mask some of the "Pumking"-ness, I think I’d take this over Pumking any day. Still, I’d look for other "pumpkin" double stouts before this as that "pumpkin pie" crustiness of sorts just like in Pumking does become quite overbearing throughout.

Oily brown pour, brown head. Lactose sweetness is very forward followed by a prune note, some milk chocolate, cocoa nibs, lightly sweet finish.

Hands down the best beer I have ever had. So sweet and so seductive.Unfortunately it is breaking the bank. I’ve bought 4 cases(at 116.00 a case after tax) and around 20 separate bottles(@12.00 a piece). I only have 8 bottles left.

For the record, I am not a stout guy but this was very smooth and creamy, nice blended taste.

Fresh bomber at my place to the face. Pours thin black with tiny head that disappears quickly. Aroma is burnt bread crust and Caramelized sugar. Taste is sweet burnt pumpkin pie crust, light malt, sugar. Finish is medium to long and thin. Interesting brew, too much going on to drink a lot of it.

On tap at Ridgewood (Raleigh). Pours far with a finger of tan head. Aroma is that of a sugary cereal. A few spices come through in the taste, with cinnamon taking first place. In retrospect, the cereal it smelled of was Cinnamon Toast Crunch. That makes sense as the cinnamon and lactose mirror the cereal'a artificial sweetness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured light brown with tan head. Pleasant pumpkin head. Light creamy pumpkin head with some spice.

On tap at MacGregor’s in Henrietta. Color is a dark brown with red highlights. Thin head of white swirls. Aroma is mild - only some malt sweetness. The flavor is lightly creamy with the sweet malt character, and what must be the lactose sweetness blending together. No hop presence to speak of and the body is thinner than I expected. Rather disappointing.

On tap at MacGregors. Poured nice and dark with a small tan head. Some lacing. Aroma was of sweet malt and some roast. Flavor of sweet chocolate and roastyness. This is a decent stout for the style.
