Dark brown with a light film of foam. Aroma is mostly pumpkin spice and some biscuit. First taste is pie crust. Next you get pumpkin spice with a malty finish. The spice is a little intense and covers the stout flavors. I wanted to like it more but missed the mark for me.

Not knowing the style description, I wouldn’t have pegged this as an Imperial Stout--at least, it doesn’t have the incredible richness and depth than an American example of the style usually has. The pumpkin spice thing was o.k. in this example: not over the top at all. Decent. (on tap at Red Cow, St. Paul)

BOD 6/26/14. Black pour with a normal head, but poor lacing and retention. Nice nose of ginger, clove, cinnamon and maybe nutmeg. Underneath is a bit of pumpkin and subtle notes of roast and chocolate coupled with an airy light sweetness. As it warms, chocolate becomes much more noticeable. Medium bodied with a light smooth texture. Lower than normal carbonation with no effervescence on the finish. The flavor profile is where this one shines - intense, complex and balanced. It begins with a rush of spice, with ginger and clove the most abundant, over a light sweetness with pumpkin and roast deep in the background. In the middle, chocolate notes yield to a hop/roast background with an expertly balanced bitterness. The finish is a blend of the aforementioned flavors fading away into a nice mild alcohol burn at the back of the throat. Lingering is a bit of roast, bitterness and pumpkin.

Bomber. Dark brown pour with a thin beige head. Pumpkin aroma, with nutmeg, cinnamon and whip cream. Roasted malt, spiced pumpkin and a hint of smoke. Slight alcohol warmth in the finish. Creamy texture with average carbonation. If you’re a fan of Pumking this is a must try.

This is a giant old spice beer and remarkable in so far as you can actually taste actual pumpkin in it. Unfortunately, pumpkin is just not that good of a flavor. It is just sort of a vague vegetable taste and that is all I am getting out of it here. It is black in color and headless. There is a bit of a roasted character here which is nice but it’s also slightly metallic. For a strong beer--especially a spiced beer--this is pretty drinkable, somewhat dry w/ mild carbonation. I do enjoy the creamy texture of this and the spice is pretty subtle all things considered but I feel like this could be a little more centered on malt and hops rather than pumpkin and spice overall. It’s not a bad beer but it really doesn’t stand out as particularly good either.

Bomber into a 20oz tulip. Pours a charcoal blackish brown. Slight brown lacing, little head. Aroma is of dark spiced pumpkin, nutmeg, banana bread, and Cinnamon. Taste is of fully engulfed pumpkin, dry cocoa nibs, cinnamon, black malts and squash. A pleasant seasonal treat, not really fulfilling the imp stout stature, but highly enjoyable, easily drinkable, and pleasant to the tounge.

Lots of graham cracker and pumpkin pie with lots of malt flavor. Pours black with a beige head and is better than pumpking.

22 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Dark brown pour with a frothy khaki head. Aroma of pumpkin pie and graham cracker. Taste is very much like Pumking with pumpkin pie, heavy cream, ginger, and clove stealing the show masking nearly all of the dark roasted malt flavor. Blindly, I’m not sure that I could tell much of a difference between this beer and Pumking.

Pours very brown, able to see through it slightly. Little head, poured at 60°. Strong aroma of pumpkin pie. Taste is spicy pumpkin pie with malts, sweet. Spicy and sweet remains on the palate. Good stuff.

22 oz. bottle pours an opaque dark brown with decent tan head but no lacing. Aroma has noticeable pumpkin and licorice with some chocolate. Taste is slightly sweet with some bitterness and alcohol in the finish. Body is full with an oily mouthfeel. This one interests me much more than the same brewery’s popular Pumpking. I’ll try this one again

Sampler-size at Total Wine’s Autumn beer tasting class; I need to try more to get a better idea of it, but what I had I liked. Aroma: a lot of malt, molasses, mild spice. Very dark. Oily in the mouth. A little harsh, strange at first; flavors generally match the aroma, then a nice pumpkin finish.
