COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A traditionally brewed full-bodied beer with a distinctive Australian hop bitterness, which follows a slightly sweet front palate. The only remaining example of the Australian primed bitter style which was so popular in the 1940's and 50's. This is S.A's most bitter beer at 25 IBU's (International Bitterness Units) yet presents as an easy drinking well- balanced beer with a broadened palate. Australia's only gold medal winner at the 2000 Beer World Cup held in New York.

Pretty bad, typical Aussie "bitter". Rusty metal/tinny, with the traditional POR hrashness on the finish, malt sweet (corn), i not really bitter at all, thin body. Pretty lame, but better than a lot of Aussie bitters.

a little too sweet but otherwise quite well-made and indeed more bitter than most aussie drops

Pale golden body with a very short head. Fairly sweet taste with a stale soapy aroma.

UPDATED: JUL 8, 2005 Drank this one on the odd occasion Cooper’s wasn’t on draught in my two years in Adelaide. Pours a clear gold with a bubbly white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma was definitely hop driven, but not the delicate floral Kentish hops, Pride of Ringwood came to mind with a mix of grassy, metallic, stale hops of a different variety. Nose follows into the mouth with a heightened oxidised edge and biting carbonation, thin body and bitter in the back with a little sweet malt and corn starch to attempt a compromise. Finishes off quite crisp and forgettable. Come to think of it I don’t know why I drank it, I suppose it was because it was beer and I was at a pub and thats what you do there. Not the best from Southwark.

I hate bitters that are described as lagers, especially when they are brewed to have a sweeter finish. It is sweet but there is no balance in the finished product. An inoffensive beer.

Probably better than xxxx or vb but still just an industrial pale lager. A tad more bitter than most but nothing to go ape over.

[Bottle] Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma is metallic, corn, musty, and a little green apple. Taste is also metallic, with the hop bitterness transitioning quickly into a sweetness that is really unappealing. Malt shows through at the end, but by then it is too late. Muddled and pretty disgusting. Fairly thin, with a finish that isn’t too long (thankfully). Alright, I will admit it, I only purchased this because I was trying to tick styles off. It says "original classic bitter" on the label, I mean come on! I was robbed...but I guess that is what I guess for style ticking.
