COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Color covers. White foam, creamy and persistent. An aromatic and bitter beer created by British brewers to withstand the trip to India, which would quench the thirst of the troops of His Majesty. A piece of history in the bottle!

6.4% bottle from Mam and Dad’s holiday, Lisbon, Portugal. This hazy orange coloured beer pours with a huge foamy head. It has spicy candy sugar and floral hoppy flavours with a malty body and a slight pineapple and woody hop finish.

Tasted 27/3/15 at Medrosa d’Alfama, Lisbon, Portugal. Poured a murky brown toffee/amber-brown colour with a few white bubbles as a collar and no lacing. Carbonation low and fine. Aroma of floral hops with an underlying malt sweetness. Taste has a nice light choppy bitterness. Light to medium body. Dry, very refreshing with a lingering soft hops finish but much softer than a typical IPA. Good for a Portuguese beer. Must be difficult to retail beer in a market dominated by grapes.

Bottle. Pours hazy deep amber with a large creamy beige head that dissipates slowly and laces well. Aroma is malty, breath, nutty, hints of grass. Flavor is medium sweet, medium bitter, apple tartness, lots of acidity. Lightish body, high carbonation. Lingering bitterness. Definitely a British IPA in style, and not a good one

UPDATED: DEC 28, 2014 I am quite disappointed by this Portuguese IPA. Interesting nose, different from what I know, it smells a bit like glue ;) but then the plate doesn’t follow. Not bad, but nothing great about it...

Haxy brown, huge rocky head, a litle yeast residue. Bittersweet, rich flavor. Anise, bitter oranges, mango. Tones of sulphur, but not ina an unpleasant way.

Bottle from andrepintado, many thanks. Hazy dark orange color with huge off-white head. Tropical fruity hops, bready malt in aroma. Solid malty backbone followed by tropical fruity, spicy hops, with light fruity tartness in background. Resiny hoppy finish. Easy drinkable, enjoyable beer.

courtesy of André Gonçalves - hazy amber-brown beer with a little foam left; earthy and light vegetable-like aroma, notes of almonds; overcarbonated, some candied sweetness, earthy and astringent; some bitterness, light notes of ripe fruits and more earthy notes in the finish - not convincing

In short: An IPA attempt that is total mess with a strange array of flavors.
How: Bottle at Taberna Da Rua Das Flores, Lisbon Portugal.
The look: Clear dark amber body topped by a little beige ring of foam.
In long: Nose is floral, perfumy, aromatic tea, overall strange aroma that is hard to describe. Body has an oily texture and it is lacking carbonation, the mouthfeel was totally lifeless. Taste is old rotting tea, some kind of low sweetness table syrup, a weird sensation of artificial flower flavors, cooked apples, other weird stuff. What a mess this beer was. And that’s pretty much when I decided to drink only wine for the remainder of my stay in Portugal. Beers are so bad in Portugal that I went shopping three times to the same beer store before I realized it was actually a hardware store and I was drinking industrial lubricant.
