3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ibrew2or3 (5758) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - MAY 20, 2012
22oz bomber pours up copper with slight haze and quarter inch tan head. The modest aroma offers up some earthy and spicy hops with notes of pine hops and eucalyptus leaves in the background. The taste has bitter spicy and pine hop notes rimmed with a bit of rough booze and a dash of citrus like sweet hard candy. It seems to want to be a bold and rough IIPA but lacks the depth and richness to get there. Underneath all the resiny hops is a note of two of sweet dark fruity esters.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Ernest (5610) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 13, 2012
Bottle.
Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting.
Body is medium amber.
Aroma is moderately to heavily malty (caramel), lightly hoppy (apricot), with a note of butter.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety/syrupy texture, lively/soft carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
IPA??? In whose opinion, I wonder. This is a syrupy sweet malt bomb...both in the nose and mouth. Rarely if ever do I criticize an American IPA for not having enough hops (the thought is practically laughable), but it’s very much the case here. Better attenuation would help a lot too. As it is it’s just too goopy and unrelentingly sweet to enjoy.
