Commercial Description:
A light bodied amber ale made with wildflower honey and natural raspberry. These ingredients, combined with five domestic and imported malted barleys, Pacific Northwest hops, water and ale yeast, creat a unique, fruity ale with a soft palate and a touch of sweetness.

Editor's Note: It is unknown at present exactly where each of the Spanish Peaks beers are being brewed. Flying Dog no longer makes any of them. Some are brewed by City Brewery in LaCrosse, WI. Expect this beer entry to move as more recent info becomes available.

Pours pleasing golden with a medium off-white head that laces prettily on the glass. Nose is raspberry, faint soap, faint malt. Flavor of raspberry overwhelms the mild malt backbone, with honeycomb and subtle floral hops at the end. Fairly sweet but finishes rather sour and dry. This is actually pretty good.

Pours a medium brown with a thick white head. As one might expect, the aroma is strong raspberry, but is smells tart rather than sweet. The flavor is a little disappointing. It tastes sweet rather than tart, and the raspberry flavor doesn’t come through very strongly. Not a bad beer, but the flavor is a little lacking.

This isn’t the first time I’ve had it, just getting around to this. I must say I’m not surprised at the percentile. It has a light amber body with a thin fading head. Smells sweet but not complex. The flavor is much the same. The raspberry and honey don’t quite blend well. The raspberry is somewhat tart and doesn’t play well with the over-sweetness of the honey. If you can put up with this ale long enough it eventually divulges some malt and hop character but not enough to forgive the over the top sweetness that constantly harasses you with every sip. This would be a good beer for children or people that don’t like beer.

Aroma is a fresh fruity scent. Color is a bright amber with good carbonation and a nice off white head. Taste is fruity and spicy. Starting with a light body it goes down easy with a crisp feel. Finish comes in with a light raspberry taste and spicy feel that lends a faint bitterness. After taste is clean with a mild tartness. This is a very good brew and one of the better fruit beers I’ve had.

12oz bottle from Jans Wine and Boos #2 (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark amber color with a one finger off-white head that settles quickly. Aroma does smell of raspberry and honey with sweet malt, bready and yeasty notes. Flavor is much of the same with a somewhat sour raspberry flavor that more resembles raspberry tea than beer. Generally light body with a quick finish.

This is an odd beer... It seems to be an ok amber ale underneath, but the overwhelming artificial taste of the raspberry ruins this beer for me...
