Black dogs's Winter Cheer ia a very hearty ale made from five different malts and three hop varieties. It has a deep copper color and its flavor balances the sweet malt with siginicant hop spiciness. The perfect beer to cheer up a winter's evening.

Dark brown color with hints of garnet and topaz when held to the light. Moderate cream colored head with a few isles of tiny bubbled lace. Aromas of lightly toasted bread, sweet tobacco, and floral/herbal hops. There is also a light graininess to the nose, which I catch in quite a few ambers. Toasted and lightly roasted malt flavors dominate. A light spiciness in the in the middle and finish with white pepper and pine, nothing to exciting, but it does give it a little kick. A mix of amber, strong and brown ales.

Got the case for free. Free beer generally tastes better. What a bargain. Delicious. First one I slugged down straight from the bottle. No problem. Delicious. Poured the next one into my favorite vessel. Even better. I will have no problem polishing off this case. Great hop taste for a winter beer.

Chocolate, raspberry nose. Very handsome looking dark with reddish highlights and a thick well-laced head. Chocolaty palate that is a bit hoppy too, but nice.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Publix Supermarket - Centerville Rd. - 12 oz bottle. Dark copper-amber pour with a slight but long lasting thin off-white head. Spicy aroma, hints of spruce and citrus. Full-bodied flavor with some bitter citrus notes, a bit of nuttiness and some Christmasy spiciness and just a wisp of chocolate. Slightly chewy mouthfeel with some bitterness in the aftertaste. Decent winter warmer.

Bottle from Capone’s. Deep ruby pour with 2-finger khaki head. Aroma of roasty dark malt, burnt brown sugar, spices. Tastes a bit rauchy, with roasty malt, some x-mas spices, and mild nut flavors. Not a repeater for me.

Hey another decent Spanish Peaks beer, kodos to... Flying Dog? Pours a very dark reddish brown with a tiny head that quickly disappears into nothing. Hop centered beer with a clean malt center. Nothing too over the top here lightly sweet hops and kind of a generic maltiness, faintly earthy. Nothing off-putting, which is a big step up for Spanish Peaks. Light bitterness at the end and a shapr finish to the flavor. Probably a good example of a standard micro.

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a sweet malt with an underlying hop. Flavor is toasted malts with some breadyness and a small touch of wood smoke. Finish is kinda watery and uneventful. Typical amber ale and nothing really special.
