| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Jan 2, 2010 A good dark beer from Spaten, though probably not one of the better dark offerings from Munich.
Brownish-garnet red in color, with a small head that lasts until about half-way through the beer. Not a lot of aroma, but what is there is all malt inspired; raisins, licorice and coffee. Nice medium body, flavor is like the nose, but there is also a bit of sour-ish-ness, most likely from the yeast.
One note here, if served much below cool, the brew is practically flavorless, so don’t overchill, as this beer seems to lose its identity more than most when served too cold! Strykzone (1507), Wood River, Illinois, USA

Caramel, biscuit, and Saaz hop aroma. Flavor is wheat, caramel, biscuit. Roasted notes and brazil nuts. Hops are less pronounced than in the aroma. Not a great beer. GMUcrew7 (378), Mason, Ohio, USA

Deep amber body, offwhite foam.
Very typical dunkel affair on the nose and body; plenty of caramel and biscuit, hints of roasted nuts and chocolate, with a decent hop bitterness to finish.
Enjoyable! Soonah (980), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 9, 2009 Poured clear and copper with a short white head. The aroma was a distinctive malt, toffee and faint chocolate. The flavor was nutty and spicy, a bit of chocolate and some astringency that was kind of distracting. Thin body, well carbonated. Not my favorite from them. FlssmrBrewAlum (1190), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 5, 2009 Draft at the Bavarian Lodge (Lisle, IL). Pours a very dark reddish copper, creamy offwhite head that stays decent sized, laces very well. Pretty much transparent despite being dark. Aromas are a nice dark maltiness, caramel and toffee, toast, and subtle sweet malts. Initial is a good base of sweet caramel, toffee, biscuits, and bread. A nice sweet malt base, a faint bitterness on the finish. Quite smooth and drinkable, mellow sweetness, toast is secondary, a touch nutty and faint vanilla. This is nice, refreshing, and highly drinkable with a decent amount of flavor/character for a darker lager. Not bad at all. Sledutah (128), Utah, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 24, 2009 12oz bottle:
Appearance: Pours a dark reddish brown with very little head (tan) that disappears fast and no lace left in the glass.
Aroma: Grainy malt with some caramel
Taste: Roasted malt with some grain, caramel and sweetness. The finish is crisp and clean with no aftertaste.
It would be easy to drink a few of these.
