This beer is our speciality. In 1894 Spaten became the first brewery in Munich to produce this brand of light lager. Golden in color with a well-balanced hop-flavor. The full rounded body is a superb balance between hops and a malty sweetness.

From Hipercor. In Bavaria glass. After dinner. Good maltyness, with more bitterness than usual in the style. Nice mouthfilling feel. Easy drinking. A pity its ugly look, with no foam.

Originally rated on 9/4/08. I didnt rate this on higher because i am basing my score on the mini-keg version since i tried that last. I dont think i will ever buy any beer from a mini keg again since every single time there is an overwhelming metallic taste. Other than that Spaten pours a mid to dark yellow body, average carbonation, thin white head, not much lace. Flavor of corn and some malts, kinda sweet for a lager. Overall a fairly average beer.

500 ml can. Pours a very pale yellow with a large white head. Aromas are light grains and grass. Light grains with a very subtle hop presence. Thin body, watery, little to finish. A mass-produced beer without any character.

looked as expected. plenty of sweet malt up-front and then some strange berry bitterness-tartness. a little water. as zieglerbrau helles on tap in dachau. typical sweet hay aroma. very pale with very light bitterness and a hint of raw sugar. standard helles made to seem a bit better by being very fresh

Classica lager tedesca industriale. Sentori erbacei e di cereali, con finale leggermente secco. Dissetante, ma niente di più.

Classic yellow body with a a nice white head and good lacing. Aroma is grains, grass and a little skunky. Taste is smooth classic Euro-lager. Clean finish, enjoyable.

Bottle. Light yellow with a big, frothy white head. Aroma is grassy, slightly herbal hoppy, some cereal/light malt. Taste is mostly sweet with cereals/cornflakes and some hop bitterness. Medium body, high, prickly carbonation, dry mouth feel. Short sweet and herbal bitter after taste.

I recall this beeing a better beer. Seems more bland than before. Too sweet IMO.

Hm. I used to like this a lot more. Aromas and palate now seem bland, simple, one-dimensional. Dare I say almost "Americanized." Dumbed down for mass appeal. The kind of a beer I can’t wait to finish so I can move on to something else. Disappointing.
