This beer is our speciality. In 1894 Spaten became the first brewery in Munich to produce this brand of light lager. Golden in color with a well-balanced hop-flavor. The full rounded body is a superb balance between hops and a malty sweetness.

Bottle as premium lager from Jusco on sale at 250 yen (best before 12/2014). Upon opening and serving in a lager glass it pour a very pale gold with a thin soapy white head. Alas it was lightstruck with one of the skunkiest aromas I’ve smelled in awhile(why do they use green bottles?), once you get past that you get a grainy sweet pale malt aroma with possibly a hint of residual hoppiness. On the palate it is light, sharp and crisp with a dry finish. The taste is dusty dry crackers, a bit of sweetness then a bitter skunky finish with somewhat of a sour aftertaste. It’s obviously gone off but I am guessing fresh on a hot day it would be a passable lager(probable 3-3.1).

Buona birra. Nella media dello stile. Molto beverina grazie alla buona consistenza del corpo

"not bad...a good food/pizza beer, but nothing so special that it’s a treat on it’s own. clean, crisp, and well balanced...just a hair under where it rate Spaten pils...malty flavor, hop finish. refreshing."

Tap (in Garmisch); clear gold pour with a white head; aroma of malt and hops; taste is bittersweet with malt and hops with a hint of citrus, has a light bitter finish; not bad but Spaten has better beers.

Clear light gold pour with lively white head. PIls like aroma and straw/hay with a hint of something doughy. A bit of that sweet dough on the uptake but really this is a quaffer. Not for me.

500 ml bottle. Golden yellow, perfectly clear, with a small, creamy, not too persistent bright white head Pretty invinting and fresh nose. Bread/pale malts, light vanilla, wet hay, floral and grassy hop notes. Slightly nutty and toasted as well. Sweet and sugary upfront, almost sirupy and honey like, pretty harsh bitterness which doesn’t linger too much. Malty and slightly dusty aftertaste. Light mineral presence as well. Average to lively carbonation, light to medium body, slightly creamy texture. Not bad.
