This beer is our speciality. In 1894 Spaten became the first brewery in Munich to produce this brand of light lager. Golden in color with a well-balanced hop-flavor. The full rounded body is a superb balance between hops and a malty sweetness.

12 oz bottle into a Samuel Smith pint glass. A: Pours a crystal clear golden straw color. I love how translucent the body is, in particular. The head is a two finger white shade; retention isn’t the best, but there’s some really nice lacing left on the glass. S: Aye, it’s a bit skunked (lol, green bottles), but it could have been worse. The notes of pale malts, faint sweetness, and zesty hops aren’t dulled in any significant capacity. T: At first, some of the hop profile comes through with notes of grass and lemon zest, but the finish is pure, balanced, simple malt goodness. In particular, it has a nutty flavor that I really enjoy (that, and the diacetyl is kept in check). Personally, I want more hops; but I won’t complain about the balance this offers. M: Not quite as bone dry as I like my lagers to be - nor is it too sweet. The texture does the best it can to provide good drinkability without significant hoppiness. O: Green bottles mean I wouldn’t buy this one again. However, I would seek it out on tap. An under-appreciated lager unfortunately scorned both by its bottle color and by who makes it.

Bottle from Intermarche, Budens, Portugal. Very pale golden in colour with a quickly disappearing thick white head of foam. It has a sweet gentle floral fruity flavour with grassy and malty notes followed by a gentle toffee, almond and a bitter, hoppy finish. Very nice.

500ml bottle, as Spaten München. Clear yellow with small white head. Aroma is sweet light malts, white bread, cereal, grass and lemon. Taste has an initial light citrus bitterness followed by sweet light malts and dough and ending sweet with a touch of grassiness and citrus. Light mouthfeel, medium carbonation, minimal bitter aftertaste. Drinks very easily, not bad but also not very exciting.

It has an amber-golden color and has a mild flavor, perfectly combines the bitterness of hops and sweet wort with a delicate aroma of spices.

Vom Fass im München. Goldgelb mit viel Schaum. Herber etwas metallischer Duft. Antrunk grob herb. Dann kommt süße. Abgang leicht säuerlich. Es gibt besseres Bier in München.

Pours pale golden with a white decent sized head. Mildly malty and sweetish aroma. Taste is malty and bready, but there is a nice touch of hops too. Dryish finish. Average CO2. A well balanced and enjoyable brew. (0,5 l bottle, bb 08/2016)

Poured from 12oz bottle at home. Yellowish with white head. Smells of bread, hay, resin, basement aromas, and banana. Taste is barnyard, skunky, woody, bread, cereal. Kind of had to choke this down.
