This beer is our speciality. In 1894 Spaten became the first brewery in Munich to produce this brand of light lager. Golden in color with a well-balanced hop-flavor. The full rounded body is a superb balance between hops and a malty sweetness.

Malty, with a very short bitter bite on your tongue in the middle. Eases into a taste of hay and hops, but it’s somehow just really brief. Like you might want to taste more of it but then it’s already gone. Still, a fairly enjoyable lager, for sure.

Pours light yellow with skimpy white head. Strong grassy aroma with notes of DMS. Taste is bland with dry aftertaste, minimally bitter. Light mouthfeel with ample carbonation. Overall tastes like cheap beer fit for resuscitation of the masses. Goes down easily and best consumed cold, which isn't a compliment. Won't buy again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear golden yellow, short lasting white foam head. Typical taste for a German beer. OK, not outstanding. (Velp 201503)

Light gold, white head. Malt aroma, grains, hay. Taste again sweetish Munich malt, grainy, grass and hay. Low amount of bitterness. Light to medium body. Nothing spectacular but very nicely done and hits the spot every time. My go-to Helles.

500ml bottle, 5.2%. Pours clear golden with a white head that doesn’t last. Refreshing barley malt flavoured beer. Half decent but nothing original about it. Fairly average lager

500ml Bottle from Reilly’s (Lisnaskea - £1.79):
Quite a nice lager without really doing much to stand out from the crowd, being from Germany is almost enough to elevate it above most lagers you’re likely to try in the UK but it is by no means a classic. It had enough going for it to keep you interested and the crisp finish was particularly pleasing but it’s not a beer I’d go out of my way to track down again.
