3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very nice appearance - beautiful orange-brown that almost glows in the light alongside a finger length, fluffy and pillowy head with great retention, though the lacing doesn’t last long. Almost zero skunk in the aroma despite green bottling - mostly pils malt. Flavor is where it really shines - light toast and nut with bread malt and caramel. Epitome of a solid, flavorful Okto. Up there with Free State’s, Paulaner’s...would love to taste test this against my other favorite Oktos.

I love this beer. Quibble if you will over the precise flavor notes, but to me it simply tastes like fall--a classic malty Oktoberfest that defines the style.

12oz bottle thanks to Bob F. Drank from the bottle. Clear golden beer through the green bottle. Aroma of sweet grain and not much else from the bottle. Taste of grain, sweet fruit, and lots of grassy bitterness.

Looking through my reviews surprised i missed this one. HAd it many of times and it one in a 20 oktoberfest bier blind tasting I had 3 or 4 years ago. Green bottle, nice caramel character, crisper finish than msot, great one.

January 2nd, 2013 - Beers like the Oktoberfest Ur-Märzen make me want to brush up on my beer studies and BJCP progress, on account of having no clue what makes a Marzen Ur, or how that’s distinguished from an Un-Ur-Marzen. Or a Non-Ur? Whatever the difference, this does remind of all the malty, caramel goodness of an Oktoberfest, and the festival itself. Lots of nuts in the aroma, including honeyed peanuts, some burnt honey or burnt toffee, and a little sweetness that reminds me of Sprite - curious. Carbonation assaults the tongue at the tip of the sip, which suddenly wives way to honey and that strange Sprite flavor again. The body is thin, and given the flavors, this might go well with greasy or acidic foods, but by itself it’s a little thin, and clear, and sessionable too. And that might be the point, given the timing of this brew’s annual and celebratory release.
