3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
not as good as Paulaner or Ayinger Octo Fest, but a decent German Octo. Orange-copper hue, German yeast nose, nice malt flavour, but too thin in body

I can’t stand most Oktoberfests. This is no different. I think the bitterness isn’t quite up my alley.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 8, 2007 Sweet, cereal aroma. Same in the taste, almost like raisin bran. Chewy, sweet malts, hearty grain and cereal. Decent palate. My favorite of the style.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Nice aroma and appearance. Has a rounded, beery taste, but little piquance. A smooth brew with a full body, but in taste, comparable to many of the mid-tier macros out there.

Well made flavorful amber but I’ll call it and orange beer! The best Octoberfest available on the market. Starts kind of sweet but not overly cloying. Well made bier from Germany!

4.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Fresh and off tap at a busy, well-versed bar. Mid to full-bodied with a foreground dominated by hops and a background of malty sweetness that kicks in at the end of the front. Robust mid of grains and more grains that tapers off to a lingering sweetness. An unbalanced, but balanced finish that should be savored.

If you can get this fresh, your in for a treat. Perhaps the best import I’ve had.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: OCT 6, 2007 Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, caramel, husks), lightly hoppy (flowers), with light notes of metal and soap. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, slightly metallic. Not much aroma. Kind of metallic and grainy. Like most of Spaten’s line, disappointing and even somewhat unpleasant.

This is one of my favorite beers of this style.
