Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA Jun 25, 2006 Was surprised to find an Octoberfest on tap in June but a German restaurant in St. Louis, MO. offers this one. I’m glad they did. It offers subtle Fall flavors. Some pumpkin and coriander can be found. Nice beer. elektrogeist (158), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jun 13, 2006 12oz bottle from lee’s liquor: aroma of dark malt, but pleasant. very proper oktoberfest color, with great flavor as well.. but still lacking something. perhaps because the bottle i have is long expired. leaves a very nice aftertaste which is not the same as the taste. something almost fruity about it but not quite. still excellent brew. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 7, 2006 Poured like ginger ale, phony carbonation, off yellow color with almost a green tint. Aroma was malty, grassy, caramel, and some skunk. Flavor was much of the same, sweetness accompanied by some level of spicing. The "balance" of hops may have been there, but as soon as it gets a bit grassy, I’m not into hop balance, especially within this style. bgburdman9 (822), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 29, 2006 ad this at the Taste of Cinci over Memorial Day weekend. This was a pleasant suprise. I wanted the optimator but it was like 92 degrees outside and my dad wanted try it and i thought a darker beer was a bad idea. Overall very tasty and I would probably try this again. GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA May 22, 2006 What a great beer!! I’ve quaffed a few Spaten products in my time, and the Optimator is one of the beers that started me down the path of beer nerdiness. At any rate, I’ve popped this one open and here it goes! Aroma is malty sweet with a strong caramel tone. HUGE head comes pouring forth from the glass. Mouthfeel is soft and lively, not harsh at all but soft and medium-bodied. The taste is an incredible balance of hops and malt with a slight roastyness and caramel that is a delight going down. I’ve yet to have a Spaten product not deliver. They are like Unibroue, only with lesser products.....and in Germany. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA May 18, 2006 Bottle 42F Lager Glass. Aroma is sharp, and aspartic, larger yeast aroma, very light notes of barly. Bottle provided a large billowy white head that lasted for quite some time. Pours a very light amber color and very clean and clear, moderate to low lacing. Tastes rather light, with a slightly bitter finish, that is semi dry. Just mild notes of sweetness and a slight tanginess. Semi aspartic. Good amounts of carbonation, provides a nice mouthfeel but not too large. Quite drinkable, too be enjoyed in the cooling weather of autumn. STEPHENDR (478), California, USA May 11, 2006 Gold appearance- almost no head -nose is honey, caddied fruit and ending with skunk- banana, sour bubble gum- a little oily – sweet skunk aftertaste PGA324 (85), Savage, Minnesota, USA May 9, 2006 On tap, amber in color with thin white head. Nice balance of flavor with malt middle and light hop ending. Medium body, decent lacing.
