italarican (157), Astoria, New York, USA Sep 4, 2009 Pours bronze with some slightly fluffy white head. Aroma has notes of malt and caramel but is a bit weak. Flavor is a bit more rich of roasted malt, caramel, and currants. Somewhat bland with little finish. It’s aight. Elwood (676), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Sep 4, 2009 Serving: 12 oz. bottle.
Appearance: Very deep amber color with a foamy white head. The head is gone in seconds.
Aroma: Slight metallic and wet dog notes. A bit of caramel and toasted malt. Could be better.
Taste: Toasty malt, a bit of grain and biscuit. Mild bitterness in the background that helps even out all of the maltiness.
Palate: Medium-high, prickly carbonation with a medium mouthfeel. Medium, slightly bitter finish.
Overall: A middle of the road Oktoberfest that isn’t really spectacular in any way.
Rebuy: No, there are better ones out there. CanIHave4Beers (838), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Sep 3, 2009 Pours a deep orangish gold with a medium head. Aroma is mildly skunked (damned green bottles) with a bit of nice hoppiness and a nutty maltiness, really a nice pungent beer if it weren’t for that skunk lingering.
The flavor has some nice roasty somewhat grainy malt well balanced with a nice noble hoppiness, and just a touch of an almost nutty candy like sweetness in the background.
rayg1 (433), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA Sep 2, 2009 Fairly good for a marzen style. Pours out a ruddy brown with a respectable tan head. Aroma is lightly sweet. Taste is malty sweet, a bit of spice, and a touch yeasty. Not bad but it starts to get too sweet for me towards the end. I doubt I could have more than one or two of these beers and this style is supposed to be one of the more sessionable ones. Regardless, not bad at all in limited quantities. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Sep 1, 2009 Draft at Papa Jakes, Buffalo. Deep amber pour. Roasty & sweet caramel malt aroma. Taste is almost peaty like a scotch marzen. Very malty and balanced. One of the better marzens scattershot (10), Minnesota, USA Aug 31, 2009 Pours rust colored amber, light head, sweet malty with good carbonation. I had no skunk or aftertaste. Finished well. Just a super fall beer with a brat and mashed potatoes, ummmmmmmm GMUcrew7 (353), Mason, Ohio, USA Aug 31, 2009 Nice dark copper color with a light tan head. Nice malty aroma, sweet and rich. Sweet toffee malt base with a light earthy, grassy hop finish. Medium body, crisp and refreshing a tasty beer for the fall months. HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Aug 22, 2009 33cL bottle. Pours amber with slight head. Slightly sweet aroma and taste. Solid marzen if stored properly many examples in the US seem to be spoiled.
