Appeance: This pours a clear a clear amber color with a small white head. Aroma: The nose is lightly malty & carmelly. Flavor: This is a slightly malty, light on the hops, light to medium bodied, Oktoberfest. This is a nice beer, but nothing spectacular. I was expecting more maltiness

Not bad, I thought this was going to be a light beer, but it had caracter. A little dark, with the german traditional signature in it’s flavor.

Had this on tap at the Winking Lizard Tavern on 10/18/2006... Amber color with mild carbonation and a white crown. Aroma is light toffee-like malt. Flavor is caramel/toffee malt, mild, and some alcohol. The finish has some slight bitterness shining through. The mouthfeel is quite smooth. This is a solid Oktoberfest that is very well balanced and true to the style.

22 fl oz draught, $5.30 from the Winking Lizard Tavern - Crosswoods.

9/26/2007: The color of Spaten Oktoberfest Ur-Märzen is deep golde/plage brown. It has an off-white head that is dense, foamy, and long-lasting and leaves thin lacing. This beer has a mild aroma and flavor that contain soft, slightly toasted "European" maltiness and a soft hoppiness. This beer has a medium to medium-full body and is smooth on the palate. It is a solid Oktoberfest brew.

Sample(s) from bottles shared at the September 2007 Jundale Beerklub Tasting. Thanks!

Bottle. Dark golden color with a white head. A toasted malt aroma and flavor with a dark malty aftertaste.

Appearance: clear pale bronze color, with booming, boisterous cream-toned foam atop (I may have optimized the head potential by utilizing a Wehenstephaner weizen glass). Aroma: soft, spare, tiniest hints of caramel & nuts, glimmers of malt. Taste: bright, sweet, slightly coppery feel, mild. No hops felt, malt is all over the flavor, but never too strong. Body, very light, texture is small, finish is too quickly dissipated. A very subdued, but supremely approachable marzen. Geared towards those with less exploratory ambitions in their beer imbibement.

Nice floral aroma to this one, coppery brown, fading head. Malts and hops woven together, very smooth, caramel flavors with floral and a bit of spicy earthiness to the hop finish. Very nice.

Damn green bottles. Metallic malty caramel aroma. Transparent copper color with a small white head. Sweet, malty, skunky with hints of caramel mals. Finish has a small amount of hops. Decent maarzen. Kind of thin.

09.17.05 Tap at Andy’s. Hard to judge color because of opaque mug, but has a lasting, even head of medium-sized, white bubbles. Aroma is not as bold as I expect in a marzen, rather subtle, toasty, peppery, lightly floral. It’s a mild flavor, too, and not as dry as I’d hoped. Light pretzel, touches of peppery lager yeastiness. Smooth feeling, medium body is coating across the middle, but dry to finish. I’m glad I got a tap version rather than a bottle as there was no evidence of damaging oxidation.
