COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the German version of the beer, described by Jackson in the 2000 Pocket Beer Book as "much paler (than Oktoberfest-Marzen in the US), golden, albeit still with a creamy aroma and pleasant malt accent."

500 ml bottle. Clear pale golden colour, decent white head. Sweetish grainy-malty aroma with notes of grassy hops. The flavour is sweetish malty, wityh some fruity notes and a mildly grassy-hoppy finish. OK.

500 brown bottle with a foil sealed top. Pours clear pale golden with a medium sized frothy off-white head that settled quickly. Aroma of wheat bread, grains and mineral notes. Flavour of wheat bread, cereal, caramel and a hint of alcohol. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium-light bodied, slightly slick texture and average carbonation. Overall Spaten Oktoberfestbier is okay, slightly harsh and unbalanced.

Alengrin (1716) - BELGIUM - SEP 6, 2014
Classic Oktoberfestbier with snow white head and deep golden blonde colour, spritzy carbonation and light but clean and crisp, soft caramelly and bready malty profile, nice grassy hoppiness, bitterish finish with floral hops, soft mouthfeel. Goes down really well, which I imagine comes in handy if you are at the Oktoberfest trying to compete with the Germans by pouring down 50 cl volumes of this all day.

Bottle @ home. Pours clear golden with a white head that quickly dissipates and leaves no lacing. Sweet & malty with hay, toast, sulphur and hints of toffee and yeast. Metallic and grassy hops. Light but balanced metallic bitterness in the after taste. A bit cloying malt sweetness but a quite crisp finish with some residual sweetness and hints of gooseberry.

On tap. Clear medium brown with a decent but foamy head. Lingering aftertaste of medium roast malts. Near medium body and carbonation. Somehow managed to taste just a touch stale.
