This is the German version of the beer, described by Jackson in the 2000 Pocket Beer Book as "much paler (than Oktoberfest-Marzen in the US), golden, albeit still with a creamy aroma and pleasant malt accent."

2007 bottles from Costco -- Green glass, but inside cardboard container, so no light issues. This beer has the expected qualities of an Oktoberfest: big and relatively complex malt flavors (bread, Munich malt fruit), full body, and wonderful color. The main detractor was the significant sulfur component that made the aroma undesirable and slightly vegetal-like. Sulfur is not uncommon in lagers, but it still detracts. Overall, a good beer and not too disappointing.

On tap. Clear medium brown with a decent but foamy head. Lingering aftertaste of medium roast malts. Near medium body and carbonation. Somehow managed to taste just a touch stale.

Transfer from BA review on 9-24-12 - Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – Served a lighter orange amber color with a one finger white head. The head faded relatively fast to leave a lighter level of lacing. Smell – Notes of roasted bready malt are the heaviest in this brew. Mixed with this aroma is a lighter caramel and a light earthy hop aroma. Taste – The taste begins with a nice bready flavor and a good dose of caramel sweetness. A nuttiness as well as a light herbal flavor then come to the tongue more toward the middle of the taste. In the end the herbal hop is lost but only to give way to a more earthy flavor, which when combined with the bready flavors leave a crisper taste on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The creaminess of the beer was on the rather average side with a carbonation level that was quite average as well. Both made it rather drinkable and are rather fitting for the style. Overall - It was easy drinking and had some pretty nice flavors, but nothing too exceptional.

Not too bad, but was hoping for more flavour out of a higher alcohol bier. Has a little bit of a raspy taste. A little darker than normal Sparten Hell. Very little head retention from the pour.

Pours a nice amber color with off-white head. Caramel malts, roasted malts, and some wheat on the nose; follows onto the palate. Very enjoyable oktoberfest bier.

It had a dark brunt orange amber color which is very different from the light golden Spaten Oktoberfest that I remember enjoying a few years ago. The body had good clarity and the head was thin and faded fast leaving very little head or lace. The aroma was light and had floral hops with a slight skunk popping out though sweet caramel and candy like malt notes. (My wife noted that is was like smartees candy.) It had a sweet candy like malt flavor with some mild floral hops. Hop bitterness was very light and coved up buy the sweetness of the malt. It finishes on the sweet side with hint of grassy hops. It was about medium bodied with a smooth texture and light carbonation.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein goldgelbes Bier mit ordentlicher Schaumkrone. Geruch malzig, würzig. Geschmack würzig malzig, leicht fruchtig, minimale Bitterkeit.

Huge white head, clear bright-golden colour. Very fruity and hoppy aroma with honey notes. Spicy taste and a lasting, bitter palate. Good one!
