3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JamesCory (46) - Cedar Falls, Iowa, USA - FEB 9, 2011
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2011 Appearance - little head that disappears quickly. If it were in a mug, one might think it were coffee.
Aroma of molasses, caramel, and chocolate.
Taste a light sweetness. Unexpectedly sweet for a dopplebock.
Palate - light carbonation that adds a surprising bite. A long finish that reinforces the initial aroma.
Overall - Dopplebocks aren’t my favorite, but this surprised me in how much I liked it.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dixonian (939) - Dallas, Texas, USA - FEB 4, 2011
bittke.
Dark mahogeny pour with a nice red hue - head dissapated quickly to the edges. Lots of caramel malt flavor and aroma - this is a great Doppelbock! Perfect for a cold winter day.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dudar (101) - Minsk, BELARUS - FEB 3, 2011
Pours dark amber with red and orange hues. Moderate loose head dissipates quickly, leaving no lacing. After a minute it looks like a glass of wine, clear and oily.
Smell of black bread crust, molasses, sweet malt, raisins, faint grassy hops.
Taste: again lots of molasses, raisins, black bread crust, very sweet and cloying malt, some caramel, alcohol is not obvious. Some lingering bitterness, not much hop character.
Mouthfeel is oily, dense. Sip beer.
Highlights: feels like drinking malt extract. too sweet for my taste and smell/taste is too overwhelmingly straightforward. Well made, bot not very interesting beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BiddleBrau (639) - Midland Park, New Jersey, USA - FEB 1, 2011
deep dark mahogany with nice dense off-white head. Rich malty nose. Full body and malty, what this style is all about but the hops do provide a nice follow up bite. A great winter night brew. A classic.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mpersinger (299) - , California, USA - JAN 30, 2011
From 12oz green bottle pours vibrant ruby with quickly diminishing mixed-bubble beige head. Prominent Pils malt toasty-rich aroma in this medium-lean bodied, smooth lager. The Pils sweetness dominates the flavor. Also, there’s rich dark malt and cola notes, with a mid-palate noble hop bump followed by a balancing alcohol warmth that goes a bit towards fusel.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 wlajwl (1479) - Iowa, USA - JAN 28, 2011
Good caramel malt flavor, could do without the green bottle, especially when I don’t know how long the bottle has been setting out. Good doppelbock, probably better to have in Germany fresh.

bottle: medium brown pour. Roasty aroma of grain. Medium body, very slightly bitter stronger grain flavor.
