Very dark pour with white head. Can really smell and taste the malt. Has sort of a chocolate after taste.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 buzzoven (376) - JAPAN - JUN 28, 2009
Very nice deep clear dark amber brown colour with a suitably off white creamy head. Smell of molasses, cola, and wheat. Taste is smooth and creamy with some slight caramel, rye, burnt sugar, cherry, vanilla, even some coconut notes. The alcohol is practically invisible amongst the flavour. Overall, a good, drinkable Doppelbock; but one that suffers partially from being kind of unexciting.

Sort of a dark scotch ale aroma? Not much head to speak of. Malty and roasty. Some alcohol burn. Strong, sweet. Reminds me a lot of Old Chub.

Pours rather dark brown with a bit of a matching head. Nose is sweet with hints of dark fruits (plums, raisins, etc.). Flavor is very creamy and smooth with the same dark fruits from the nose. I believe I also detected some floral notes at the end, or at least something similar to what I usually identify as floral. An excellent beer, to be sure.

12 oz bottle. One of the darkest doppelbocks I’ve seen, pouring a deep red and brown; if it were a shade darker, it would have been a stout. Aroma and flavor are of dark fruits and malts with a slight spice at the end. Overall, I was very impressed with this. Definitely one of the better doppelbocks out there.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Oscbert (746) - Sacramento, California, USA - JUN 4, 2009
~Pours a dark brownish amber with big fluffy light brown head. Clear clarity.
~Big roasted caramel and malts on the nose as well as some dark fruits such as raisin.
~Sweet biscuit malt flavor with prune, dark chocolate and raisin.
~Creamy medium feel with carbonation. A bit sickly sweet in finish and sticky.
~Pleasantly surprised by this one as I was expecting a pale lager for some reason. Lots of malt in this one. A tasty after dinner drink. A bit sweet for my taste.
