3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 GT2 (3440) - Washington DC, USA - JAN 13, 2009
330 mL. Pours a clear deep orangish brown with almost no head and little carbonation. Aromas of cider vinegar, caramel, dates, milk chocolate. Taste is watery up front with sweet raisins, dates, brown sugar, and heavy malt. Coats the mouth and leaves a cardboard-like dry taste. Overall probably one of the worst dobbelbocks I have tried. Not much here.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TearsforBeers (175) - Ohio, USA - JAN 10, 2009
Pours very dark slightly orange amber with little head on an aggressive pour. The aroma is of malts and yeast. The flavor is decent, mostly malty and grainy. The mouthfeel is moderate and slightly creamy. This is decent beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ajm (1057) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JAN 6, 2009
Bottle at Flavor of India. Good color, like raisin and date juice. Smells of the same with chocolate. Flavors add roast and smoke to the mix. I wish it were a fuller effect - a noticeably thin beer.

On tap. Black big head. Nose of chocolates and yeast. Taste of chocolates, malts, sweetness. Palate is full and lingering. Served a bit too cold. Overall very easy to drink and refreshing.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 bubbleflubber (1206) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - JAN 4, 2009
Pours a nice dark mahogany into the glass, with an initial creamy tan head that diminishes to nothing. Nice chocolate, maple syrup and light molasses to the nose. The flavors are much the same, entering some dark esters and rich malt, with light roasts to close the finish. The mouthfeel is round and somewhat deep, hampered by carbonation levels that are a bit livelier than expected... not necessarily bad, just not expected. A very good offering from Spaten, and a very nice Doppelbock. Not quite on the Ayinger Celebrator level, but one of my favorite "go to" brews.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 togaswimmer (6) - , Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 3, 2009 does not count
The aroma starts when opening, which is a great chocolate, molasses, and hops smell. The color is a nice and deep red with a small off white head. The flavor is just like all doppelbocks with a strong start and finish. It is a creamy chocolate, syrup, hop flavor with a little hint of liquorish and nutmeg. This is one of my favorites.

I buy a pint every time I get a mix and match six pack. Still at its best on draught, supremely drinkable.

nice taste for a Doppelbock which is not a favorite style for me. Heavy malty full and rich in flavor.
