pours a very very dark amber/brown color, no lasting head at all. great aroma, caramel, almost a bit fruity. goes down smooth. a bit soft when drinking, overall i definitely enjoy this one. a good fall beer.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 aenimopiate (176) - The United States of Texas, Texas, USA - JUL 17, 2008
I thought I would give a different doppelbock a shot, and I think I like the Celebrator better. This one has a good malty flavor, but the Celebrator just seems to be a more complete beer. This is a decent German bier that has the ability to stand on its own, but they seemed to have missed the mark a hair. If you try this one and like it, you’re bound to love Celebrator.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Tweety (377) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 15, 2008
A fine example of the doppelbock. Not as good as Celebrator, but very tasty nonetheless.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 carruthm (1396) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 13, 2008
brown pour with medium head with a good malt aroma accompanied by dark sugars/caramel. Taste more mellow, mostly just malts.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 teebradford (51) - Senatobia, Mississippi, USA - JUL 8, 2008
I think this, ayinger’s, and paulaner’s are all similar, and all great. But I can get this a lot cheaper than the other two.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 arventresca (394) - Greenville, North Carolina, USA - JUN 27, 2008
Pours brown with little head. Smell of malt. Taste is kind of nasty with sad aftertaste. HAd high hopes for this one and was sadly disapointed.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 durhambeer (2028) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUN 25, 2008
Dark cola brown pour with relatively disappointing off white head. Should have poured more aggressively, I suppose. Aroma is like Spaten Munich but amped up... pretty distinctive malt character. Also brown sugar, caramel, some raisin notes. Palate and taste not as complex as hoped for, but very nice overall... toffee, malt, brown sugar, caramel... and many more synonyms for sweet. Seems like a good food beer, but not my fave.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mgermani (932) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 25, 2008
Pours a deep ruby-red with an off-white lasting head and some lacing. Aroma is funky/sweaty sweet munich malt. Tastes lightly toasted, diacetyl, dates, nice finish. Thick body, viscous and moderately carbonated. Well executed, but not terribly exciting.
