COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The classic German dark beer, bottom fermented ’Doppel Bock’. Full bodied with a deep dark color and rich roasted malt flavor.

Bottle/12oz - Pours a caramel brown in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is medium skunky (green bottle), but really dominated by a dark roasted malty sweetness. Flavor is also pretty malty and medium sweet... just a bit too for me. Lingering sweetness and also a bit astringent in the finish. The skunk is a major turn off for what should have been a fairly decent beer... green bottles SUCK!!

very good dopplebock; definitely a tier below celebrator but still good. malty sweet; good palate not much hop at end

I don’t see how this is rated 97, its one of the cheaper imports at my local liquor store and the taste isn’t that appealing. It has a strong dark roasted malty taste that develops into a very strong aftertaste. I love dark beers but the taste of Optimator is just a bit too much to call it an easy drinking beer. Its good, has a strong taste, strong ABV, but after I’ve had one I don’t really want another.

Definate alcohol on the back of the throat, easy beer to drink. I don’t believe it does get better as it warms though. While a great example of the stye, is more average in the overall catagory.

A: The beer pours a caramel color with a small off-white head. Not terribly impressive. S: At first the nose is quite harsh. Slightly burnt with a little bit of a funkiness to it. However, as I let it warm up, the beer starts to come around and displays some nice caramel and dark fruit sweetness, as well as some toasted bread. T: Similar story with the flavor. The first few sips are harshly alcoholic and astringent with a little bit of cough syrup. As it warmed up, some of that went away and some of the more traditional and pleasant flavors of caramel, raisin, and black cherry came through. M: Medium in body with a medium level of carbonation. O: Hard to rate this beer as it did have some good flavors, but it also had some bad ones.

a pint and a few extra oz bottle. nice pour as dark as bottle, nice ivory head to add. nose is thinly roasty, warm and bready. tastes a nice warm "liquid bread" nice rich malts, slightly so roasty, nutty. decision; not a bad doppel.

Really crisp. It was a full bodied medium finish. Lots of carbonation. I bought a six pack and I am happy about it.

12 oz. bottle from HyVee Marion Ar: Strong cola aroma, classic dopplebock aroma that I can’t specifically describe. Nice, as expected. Ap: Pours a deep ruby brown with a 3/4" manila head. T: Big malty body, lots of toffee and cola flavors. A touch of hops on the finish. P: Thick, sticky body with a pretty solid carbonation load. O: Typical doppelbock, thoroughly enjoyable.
