Pours a ruby brown with a light head, no lace. Taste begins with a roasted caramel malt that smoothly moves through a touch of earthy plums and cherries, then finishes with light carbonation bittering. Not a lot of movement, but a solid taste, beginning to end.

Tasted at the 2012 St. Louis Centennial Beer Festival from bottle into sampler glass. Poured a dark reddish brown color with decent beige foam, some lace. Aromas of caramel, toffee, raisin brown bread, noble hops, faint fermentation esters/phenols. Rich malt flavor with a mildly tangy hops bitterness underneath. Medium body, low carbonation, bready and "chewy" mouthfeel, long-lasting complex aftertaste. Classic, true-to-style doppelbock. Very tasty.

Bottle. Pours a brilliant, translucent brown, with red (almost purplish) highlights when held up to light. Small head dissipated quickly leaving no lacing. Aroma of dried fruit and some spice. Very sweet smelling. Flavor is mostly caramel sweetness with some roastiness and bitterness on the end. Good body. More bubbly than expected. Very easy-drinking, but not nearly as nuanced and delicious as my favorite doppelbock, the one and only Ayinger Celebrator.

Pours amber.brown with a fairly big, tan head. Sweet malts with noticeable tangy hops. Well-made, tasty brew, but a bit sweet.

A favorite lager. Pour medium brown, disappearing head, light malt aroma with very slight hints of roasted grain and carmel. Taste follows through with the same tones. Moderate sweetness and complexities of carmel and roasted grain. This is really nicely balanced, and interesting enough to make me want it again. A winner.

Pours deep deep brown red, and totally clear, no haze or any yeast whatsoever. Smell is deep deep sweet caramel flavours, with something root like in there too. Almost like beets that are boiling, its super sweet, but a little earthy too. No alcohol, slight grass, but mostly a deep caramilized sweet smell. Taste is pretty nice. Very simple malt character, its sweet but not too much so, and the mouthfeel is right on medium, not too thick, not too thin. Not cloying surprisingly. Grain taste, but smooth/slick texture. Slight warmth, and I mean it’s pretty minute but keeps the beer from being boring. Nice and subtle, if I was in a strapped market, I would definitely drink it again. Doesn’t wow me, but I wouldn’t kick myself for ordering it at a bar or something; now the fact that I wasted space in my luggage from Vegas, well that’s a different story. Still thumbs up for me.
