3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ben4321 (2056) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAY 2, 2011
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2011 Location: Draft at Zeppelin Hall, 4/1/11
Aroma: The aroma is floral and grassy mostly, some spice, it is rather crisp and clean
Appearance: The pour is pretty clear, golden colored, with a white head
Flavor: It has that classic pilsner flavor, crisp and clean hops and malts
Palate: It is fairly light and (I’ll say it again) crisp and clean, the drinkability is extremely high
Overall Impression:
I’m actually a little surprised that I have never rated this one before, as it is probably my favorite of the pilsners from the big German breweries. It’s a great example of a crisp, clean, highly drinkable pilsner. I know I may have been a bit redundant in this review, but it wasn’t intentional, it just kind of happened.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 RexTalionis (591) - FINLAND - APR 24, 2011
At Viktualienmarkt in München. Poured clear golden in colour with white creamy head. Malty and slighlty buttery aroma. Malty and light hoppy in taste. A bit bitter in finish.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Willem (7) - SCOTLAND - JAN 23, 2011 does not count
Unmistakable taste of noble hops. Crisp, clean finish. Excellent Pilsener overall. however, I have found that different batches dont always taste exactly the same. Maybe they need to be quite fresh- I suspect the less-satisfactory ones Ive tasted could have been older batches. However, my overall experience (for over 20 years) has been really good. And its the one beer where the second beer tastes even better than the first!
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 scarletfire65 (419) - Rockaway Park, New York, USA - JAN 16, 2011
Poured from a bottle into a fluted pilsner. Slow pour by the bartender left no head. Nose was weak, some hints of straw and corn. Flavor profile was the same. Definitely not the freshest bottle. Had some flaws on the finish - tasted slightly "cooked" like it sat in a warm warehouse or delivery truck. Probably would have rated higher if it had been fresher, in general I’m not a fan of the style.
2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 TeamTrappist (785) - jericho, New York, USA - JAN 10, 2011
Tap. Poured a clear light amber with a super thin head. Nose is grassy with a hint of malt. Cleaner lines might have helped. But fairly crisp mostly malty finish.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Nikiel (675) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 22, 2010
Pours a crystal clear piss yellow with quickly reducing foam. Is possibly the best imported Pils I’ve had, with crisp flavors and a hop bite.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Bierkrug (1640) - Idar-Oberstein (In Senegal), Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - DEC 4, 2010
Part of the Great Munich Beer Raid 2010. On tap in Germany. Light golden colour with a large foamy and shortlived head. short sweetness wich is overwhelmed by the beers bitternes. Light to medium body, with lots of carbonation.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 SanfordBrewer (1205) - Sanford, Florida, USA - NOV 29, 2010
Lucent gold, thick white head, light body, medium carbonation.
Aroma: lots of noble hops.
Taste: lots of noble hops, diacetyl, and a light crackery pilsner malt background.
Very nice pilsner. Clean and balanced with a focus on the noble hop character.
