Broken is a promise...

Deceiving, double-crossing, and treacherous, Betrayal strikes a chord in the deepest shade of red. At first glance, she’s sweet and seductive, yet at the last sharp enough to curl your tongue. The allure of her dazzling caramel sweetness and scintillating aromatic hops is enchanting.

Sugary malt aroma, earthy soil malt. Orange and thick-looking. Has a smooth start and a sandpaper finish. Not bad, just not that exciting.

22oz bottle: Pours a slightly murky dark copper with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet lightly toasted caramel malty nose with some piny resiny hop notes. Starts with pretty good fullness and chewy sweet malts with good fresh juicy hop flavors with a touch of oxidation and light fruits before a drier, slightly warming bittersweet finish. Pretty true to style and hides the alcohol fairly well.

Bottle. Pours a muddy, earthy, river-bottom brown. The head is initially quite assertive, but scatters quickly. The aroma is big -- full of the essence of a wet pine forrest floor. This drinks with a chewy consistency, piled high with spruce and sour fruit. (#4428, 1/1/2012)

bnoel09 (570) - Elk Grove, California, USA - NOV 19, 2011
Poured from a bomber into an English pint glass. Color is sort of a rusty reddish brown with a dense tan head that dies down but doesn’t disappear. Aroma is sweet and earthy (maybe a little brown sugar or toffee) with pine and citrusy hop notes. Flavor matches the aroma well starting off with a sweet, earthy maltiness and turning into a nice resinous hop bitterness towards the finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. No lightweight, but not as heavy as you might expect for the ABV. Overall a very nice imperial red / American strong ale.
