Broken is a promise...

Deceiving, double-crossing, and treacherous, Betrayal strikes a chord in the deepest shade of red. At first glance, she’s sweet and seductive, yet at the last sharp enough to curl your tongue. The allure of her dazzling caramel sweetness and scintillating aromatic hops is enchanting.

Medium beige head. Clear deep red body. Deep earthy caramelly roasty aroma with dusty resiny chocolatey notes. Dry-sweet caramelly earthy dusty taste with chocolatey resiny notes. Fullish body. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dry-sweetish roasty chocolatey earthy aftertaste with resiny dusty notes. Nice. Balanced, harmonic, drinkable. (0.65l bottle from City Beer, San Francisco.)

22oz bottle: Pours a slightly murky dark copper with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet lightly toasted caramel malty nose with some piny resiny hop notes. Starts with pretty good fullness and chewy sweet malts with good fresh juicy hop flavors with a touch of oxidation and light fruits before a drier, slightly warming bittersweet finish. Pretty true to style and hides the alcohol fairly well.

Bomber poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, earthiness, floral notes and citrus. Palate was medim bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, floral notes, earthiness, citrus and light tropical fruit with a crisp dry bitter lingering floral finish.

Bottle. Pours a muddy, earthy, river-bottom brown. The head is initially quite assertive, but scatters quickly. The aroma is big -- full of the essence of a wet pine forrest floor. This drinks with a chewy consistency, piled high with spruce and sour fruit. (#4428, 1/1/2012)

Poured from a bomber into an English pint glass. Color is sort of a rusty reddish brown with a dense tan head that dies down but doesn’t disappear. Aroma is sweet and earthy (maybe a little brown sugar or toffee) with pine and citrusy hop notes. Flavor matches the aroma well starting off with a sweet, earthy maltiness and turning into a nice resinous hop bitterness towards the finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. No lightweight, but not as heavy as you might expect for the ABV. Overall a very nice imperial red / American strong ale.

Yeasty woody overripe orange nose. Cloudy ochre, thin yellow head, good lacing. Woody overripe orange flavor. Peanut hulls appear at midpalate and beyond. Not as hoppy as other so-called imperial reds, but tasty and unique. I really prefer more juiciness and less rustic maltiness in an imperial red, but those who disagree should like this.

22. Thanks, Melissa! Pours a murky dark amber with ruby-brown edges and a big, surging, sudsy tan head. Nice big nutty, toasty nose with some deep fresh-cut wood notes. Grainy medium body with plenty of carb. Toast, nuts, caramel, and fresh-cut wood on the mid-palate, with a mild, sweet, brown bread finish. Nice ASA.

On tap at River Rock, Sacramento. Pours reddish brown with a nice beige head and burnt toffee aroma. There is a rich amber malt flavor with a raspy dry finish. Great flavor.

Dark orangish brown with a fizz white head. Big barleywine like molasses spice and alcohol aroma and taste.
