4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
~Strong aroma of wood, resinous hops, and sweet caramel. Makes my mouth water.
~Pours an amberish red color with lasting dense and thick yellowish white head.
~ Sweet malty flavor, but very well balanced with strong hop flavor. Caramel, chocolate, and bread for the malts. Woody, resinous, and earthy for the hops.
~Full bodied feel, with medium low CO2, lingering earthy hop finish.
~Yes sir, this is my cup of tea. I really like the Prohibition Ale and this seems to be just a more amped up version. Great way to end the day,

Picked this one up at Penn Station for the ride home. Pours out a deep reddish with brown notes. Plenty of light head on this one, too much I would say. This is a nice malty brew, caramely, with plenty of hops, but not overpowering.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A steady pour into my New Belgium tulip produces a two finger thick, plus an additional one finger above the rim of my glass, light amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a concentrated, deep red stained, dark amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, deep red, copper stained around the edge, hue when held up to the light. The aroma has lots of sweetened, caramelized hops, with lots of ripe tangelo zest, grapefruit marmalade, guava jam, and softer, subtle notes of pine, and woody herbal notes, plus a supporting malt character that provides a rich caramelized sweetness, lightly toasted, whole grain bread, and a slight nutty grain note.
Big, bitter, woody, slightly astringent hop character is well balanced by a sweet, caramelized, and bready malt character. The hops also contribute ample notes of caramelized / candied citrus zest (grapefruit, tangerine, and a bit of kumquat), as well as some lighter tropical fruit notes that lean more towards guava. This has a rich body, nicely chewy, though not cloying, though certainly not a beer I feel like quaffing a bunch of, as this is more of a sipping brew. As the beer warms up a rich, caramelized, toasted nutty malt character becomes more noticeable.
Not bad, actually a good example of an Imperial Red (whatever that is); rich and malty, with an expressive hop character that nearly jumps out of the glass. It is like an über-hoppy, old school American Barleywine. Nice, but the malt character is often a bit too much for me in these types of beers.

Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a very dark brown color with orange highlights and a small foamy beige head that faded quickly but left good lacing. The aroma was crystal malt, toffee, dark fruits and sugar. The flavor was bitter and tangy with notes of grapefruit, resin, cherry, toffee and a bit of smoke. Medium length finish. Medium body. The alcohol was well contained. Solid.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep ruby with a tan head and lacing. The flavor is lots of amber malt and substantial earthy hops. The flavor is amber malt and hops up front with a semi bitter finish and interesting, slightly spicy aftertaste over a medium-heavy body.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark red/amber with a two finger off-white head and very nice lace. Grassy and citrus hop aromas highlight a caramel malt base. Taste is similar, with hop bitterness up front with a caramel sweetness accompanying a piney finish. Medium body, lively carbonation, creamy mouthfees and a crisp bitterness in the finish.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a deep copper color with a red tinge. Aroma is heavy on the malt, typical of an Imperial Red style.. Taste is heavy on the malt, I was expecting something different for a strong ale. This beer had a small amount of sweetness to it, but seemed thin in flavor.
