Broken is a promise...

Deceiving, double-crossing, and treacherous, Betrayal strikes a chord in the deepest shade of red. At first glance, she’s sweet and seductive, yet at the last sharp enough to curl your tongue. The allure of her dazzling caramel sweetness and scintillating aromatic hops is enchanting.

Bomber from the Folsom BevMo. Pours a fairly dark ruddy amber with a 3 finger frothy beige head. Sweet malt, perhaps even treacle, aroma with something like earth and resin. Full bodied. Flavor is more sweet than not in the beginning, but earthy, resin, citric hop comes out a bit to help cut that back. So it finishes a bit on the sweet side, but not very much. No heat in the mouth. Overall this is a rich, tasty ale. Smoooooth.

A: The pour is a nice amber color with a tan head. S: Quite a nice caramel malt backbone to the beer with a hint of bread and piney hops. Not much citrus, but a good balance of malt and hops. T: The balance continues in the flavor. Again, a good sweet base with some hops and bready malt to prevent the beer from being overly sweet. A bit of piney and bitter hops on the finish. M: The body is medium with a middle of the road level of carbonation. D: A pretty nice beer. Not my favorite red ale, but good flavors and balance that I don’t find any major faults or problems with.

Deep clear amber-tinted pour. The nose has a really bright pine aroma along with some lemon peel and a touch of grapefruit and citrus. Bright spicy rye malt character. Lingering pine and a long resiny hop bitterness. A bit of soft lingering fruitiness on the back. Lingering peppery booziness along with a kiss of light lean toffee. Man --- like Founder’s Red or Hop Rod on steroids.

22oz bottle: Pours a slightly murky dark copper with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet lightly toasted caramel malty nose with some piny resiny hop notes. Starts with pretty good fullness and chewy sweet malts with good fresh juicy hop flavors with a touch of oxidation and light fruits before a drier, slightly warming bittersweet finish. Pretty true to style and hides the alcohol fairly well.

Ibrew2or3 (6768) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - NOV 16, 2013
22oz bomber pours with a clear ruby red body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet dark fruity esters such as cherries and plums as well as some sugary malts, roasted malts and a bit of molasses. The taste begins with a mix of sweet malts, roasted malts and some sweet dark fruity esters like cherries and raisins. Behind all of that is a firm layer of bitter pine like hoppiness. Nice rich balanced beer where the deep malts meet a load of pine hops.

Bottle:   Deep ruby, moderate to large frothy sandy head, very clingy lacing.   Rich molasses nose, slight brown sugar, a little burnt even.   Malty up front, sweet, pretty darn smooth too.   Hops are there, but minor compared to the malt and the molasses.   Does have a little citrus zest to it.   Yeah, this one is smooth.   Finishes with some zesty hops, molasses, and bready malts.   Pretty tasty!
