COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The members of the San Francisco Brewers Guild have turned up the volume on the 1934 version of this historic ale by using high quality ingredients, a larger amount of hops, and decided to push the alcohol content even higher. Green Death was made at Speakeasy Ales & Lagers using 2-row malt, Cluster hops, California ale yeast, and 30% of the recipe consisted of flaked corn, which gives it a creamy texture and bumped the alcohol by volume up to 7.75%. The resulting beer is smooth, rich in flavor, and surprisingly not boozy. It will go down very easy, so be careful!

Green Death is part of a series of collaboration beers that the San Francisco Brewers Guild has created each year since SF Beer Week was launched in 2009. According to San Francisco Brewers Guild Executive Director, Brian Stechschulte, “The brewers enjoy working together each year on one-off recipes that challenge conventions, acknowledge brewing history, and surprise beer fans. Draft @ SF Beer Week Opening Celebration 2013, Concourse Exhibition Center, San Francisco, CA. Pours a dark golden copper aroma with a small white head. has a fruity sweetish malty lightly bready aroma. Sweetish malty weak bready caramel flavor. Has a sweetish malty finish.

Clear light amber pour with a white head. Sweet bread, toasted malt, and fruity esters. There’s some banana, light floral hops, and a light sourness on the finish. Tastes pretty malt liquor-like. Hints of corn?, sweet bread, banana, apple, and pear. Very light hop profile with no perceptible bitterness.

On tap at 21st. Clear darker golden in color with a medium off white head. For sure the aroma stirs old memories of Rainer ale. Sweet malty nose, bready, taste was like a souped up Colt 45, decent and drinkable.

On draft at the SF beer week opening celebration. It pours a clear amber color with an off white head. The aroma is fruity with some pear, plum and apple. The flavor has more plum, pear and a good grainy malt profile. Clean and full bodied. A bit bready. Nicely done, but difficult to compete with all the great beers at the event.

Rare malts bitches! Draft at speakeasy. Clear darker golden with minimal head. Corn, grassy hops up front, some creaminess, faint apple. Light body with prickley carbonation. Flaked corn cereal, grassy hop flavor that cleans it up a bit but finish has present alcohol burn and a touch rough, good bittering in the finish, but not enough to keep you from forgetting that this is a malt liquor.

On tap at Nojo for SF Beer Week. Pours amber with a rich off-white head and a bread and toffee aroma. There is a nice toffee flavaor with a bitter finish. Very refreshing.
