COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Butchertown Black Ale celebrates our 14th year by bringing back the long forgotten neighborhood of San Francisco where our brewery stands today. The nearby creek was once the home to over 16 slaughterhouses and was a thriving neighborhood till shipbuilding took over the waterfront in the 1930’s run up to WWII. The beer is a play on the senses: black as night, but with a deceivingly lighter body than the color would indicate and a dry-hopping regiment more akin to an IPA than a stout or porter.

Bottled. Pours black with a huge grey-beige head. Good retention and solid lace. Big aroma and flavors. A perfect balance of roast and earthy hops. Medium sweet, medium roasty bitter flavor. Medium body, oily texture, and a bitter, roasted finish.

Pours a dark mahogany color with a nice, tan head. Roasted malt aroma with some smokey hops as well. Smooth taste with some smoked malt and dark hops. Nice balance. Light, crisp finish. Very good.

Location: Draft at Ginger Man (NYC), 1/19/13

Aroma: The nose is fairly balanced mix of roasted dark malts and pine/citrus hops
Appearance: It has a brown pour with a thick, frothy, lasting beige head atop it
Flavor: The taste s much like the nose, roasty and malty, with a nice pine hop presence too
Palate: The body is medium, it has a rather creamy feel, with a soft carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a very solid example of a Black IPA. It hits a nice balance between the roasted and hop flavors that one would expect in the style. Good stuff. Roast and hops... Creamy....7/4/7/4/15

Dark black pour from bomber to glass. Hoppy and malty. Chocolate smell and taste more of a stout than IPA. Very good beer

Dark pour, hoppy ale taste, crazy cow head on the bottle. Soft body and good tasting. Would have this again ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Deep black. Thick lacing smells hopped with malt. Taste is very smooth without being too boozy ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled poured a deep amber with a tan head and fair lacing. Aromas are hoppy with subtle chocolate and vanilla notes. Flavors are hoppy...citrus, pine with subtle bitter cherry notes. The Finish - very light across the tung...fizzy! Bitter and dry with a trailing fruityness that lingers pleasantly.

pour is black with red hues, creamy light brown head with some larger bubbles. Nose is milk chocolate, tobacco, butterscotch, and faint herbal hop. Thick and creamy with roasted malts, faint chocolate and vanilla with a fair amount of butterscotch. Tinge of herbal hop and bitterness, very creamy but flavors are surprisingly light. Assertive carbonation.

Tapped the keg on this pour. Pours clear ruby black with a medium tan creamy head and awesome lacing. Aroma is coffee and dark roasted malts balanced by grapefruit and pine. Not strong by any means. Flavor is about the same with strong citrus notes balanced by coffee and caramel. Lightly sweet, medium bitter. Full bodied and creamy in the mouth. Quite nice.
