There is a lot of rich chocolate and cooca along with a soft chewy maltiness. There is a nice chewiness through the middle with a kiss of plum and molasses along with a chewy toffeeish maltiness. Fairly assertive roastiness as well. Intense and chewy, but not overly sweet. Nicely constructed beer with a touch of roastiness on the back. Absolutely delicious brew. Really impressive. Light roasty aroma with some fruity and caramel sweetness. The flavor has roasted malt up front, coffee, chocolate, and a light wisp of smoke on the back end. Tasty and drinkable. beerguy101 (3972), Newark, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2008 Tasted at the 5th Annual (2008) Triple Rock Firkin Fest. This porter poured a dark eclipse black color from the firkin. Small sized tan head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee, with a touch of oak. A medium to full bodied porter. The malts are chocolate and coffee, with a touch of vanilla and bourbon and a hint of oak. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. Smooth soft carbonation. Touch of the bourbon barrel is evident. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with a hint of vanilla. Bartzilla (445), San Diego, California, USA

Not normally a huge porter fan, but this was tasty and seemed almost light enough to have a few of. Which I did. And I enjoyed them all. Almost, to me at least, tasted somewhere between that sacred ground of Black Marlin and Speedway Stout. Pretty broad grounds, I know, but you’re not me and that’s how I came up with this rating. I liked it a lot and if this were in regular rotation, I’d be regularly rotating it. riversideAK (2808), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Very hoppy for a porter nose. Roasty, earthy good floral bitterness in the aroma. Dark brown pour with a creamy tan head. The flavor is roasty and earthy with a good deal of hop bitterness in the finish. Long dryness lingers. Well done. Bradrcr (785), Renton, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 17, 2009 6/17/09 on tap at the brewhouse. Aroma is about as chocolaty as they come, but low on sweetness and with a lightly alcoholic background. Appearance is dark brown with a very well maintained cream colored head. Flavor is again super chocolate with a touch more sweetness and very low toast sourness, which balances well. Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with a moderate carb texture and low warmth. Overall a porter that manages to be truly ’rich’ without being just ’big’. AgentSteve (1379), SF Bay Area, California, USA
